normal vs abnormal

when she started having sex ,smoking ,boozing, kissing girls , getting stripped by guys she had become a normal person from her family's point of view ??? what was she doing wrong when she was in India ???

reply

lol Spot on. The family saw her as part of a religious cult and felt she needed to be deprogrammed. They wanted her to be free from all that so she could engage in all the behaviour you mentioned...not that there's anything wrong with that.

I'll tell you in another life when we are both cats.

We'll worry about that later when we are cats. Cats don't need computers or internet lol
I don't know if they're making a film on catman. Should be interesting though shouldn't it?

In a democracy, majority rule decides about what is not normal or, in our case - since we're speaking about what determines a person's preconceived attitude towards the world (in general, culturally inherited) - the majority belief/value system that is present decides. Reciting the Om Mani Padme Hum mantra in not normal, whereas reciting the Our Father prayer is normal.

Michel Foucault wrote that such division as that between normal and abnormal is the way through which society (and its institutional framework of power) is controlled (or through which society controls itself - if we are to assume a holistic approach). In the diverse fields of science, the universities and research institutes decide on what is true and what is false. Public opinion is decided by mass media (the voice that shouts louder is better heard) etc.

Of course, if the lunatics were to run the asylum, the sane people would be locked up.

In a democracy ,the religious books point out about what is normal and good for us and vice versa ..of course the writers of those books were not aware of the new found lifestyles..it is not about Buddism vs Christianity..it is about good vs evil lifestyles...

reply

Yeah who gets to decide what is 'good' and what is 'evil'? Religious cultists need a fear of something to keep them in line and doing the 'right' thing. Sane and normal people who didn't choose to join a religious cult do the right thing coz it's the right thing to do and not coz they fear going to some imaginary hell or whatever.
