Genitals

I was shocked in this movie that kate winslet's genital region is depicted on the screen whereas harvey keital's were blocked by shadows. harvey keital has shown his in previous movies, so i don't think it's an issue of an actor not wanting to be exposed. i've read that the director is a feminist. what are feminist politics of sex organ depiction in film? in this movie, it seems like kate winslet's character exposed genital region was an expression of vulnerability. would it not make sense to have shown harvey keitel's genital region as well? of course the film shows him crawling on the ground in female costume as vulnerability. i just don't get it, the movie seems to be validating misogynist movie making principals ie men are spared from having their genitals exposed, femininity is belittled in scenes with men in drag...

I am one that feels nudity in movies is very much ok and i think they should be able to show both female and male full nudity. I mean if they show a womans pussy area why not show a guys penis in a movie? I dont see anything wrong with it. I am a guy and I like breasts but i feel if in a movie they want to show a guy getting out of a shower naked or bed naked why do they need to blurr or darken or block the view? why not just show it like you would normaly see a guy getting out of bed etc.

reply

i would not normally see a guy getting out of bed as i would close my eyes if ever the opportunity arose.

reply

yea well i am a guy and i like girls so if kate winslet got out of bed nude i would be looking of course but i am sure most females would not mind seeing a guys penis in a movie now and then.

Just rent some Ewan McGregor films. He has no problems showing his off.

Not this again! Are people deliberately obtuse when it comes to this? I remember having this discussion with my girlfriend years ago after seeing 'Sirens'.

It's not fair to compare the extent of genital exposure in 'full frontal nudity'. In FF shots you see a man's genitals, but you don't really see a woman's. To achieve equal genital exposure for a man and a woman, a man can simply stand, but a woman would have to sit or lie down and spread her legs. Mere 'genital region' is not the same thing, is it!

In other words, Kate Winslet's vagina is still hidden when she is standing and facing the camera, so if true parity in exposure is what you're concerned about, I don't see any problem with Harvey Keitel's penis being obscured. It's only fair!

reply

You actually want to see Harvey Keitel's dick? I would have turned the TV off if his johnson made an appearance, no matter how good the movie was.

reply

I saw Harvey Keitel's in "The Piano," and that was enough.

I love Jesus, but I drink a little.

reply

Interesting isn't it how the same filmmaker (Jane Campion) exposes HK in "The Piano" but keeps him hidden in "HS".

The fact that only HK was fully exposed person in "The Piano" but remained unexposed in "HS" evens things out I suppose.

She's clearly afraid of the male pee-pee.

reply

I heard somewhere that's not Kate's true genital hair, that she shaves it and they had to apply fake hair on that area as she was too self conscious to grow her natural hair out.

reply

I'll take that job.

reply

Let me put it to you this way: the more films that feature Harvey Keitel's penis, the better off is humanity. Penises just don't get any more unifying than Harvey Keitel's.

reply

saw an show that said women must wear a merkin during nudity scenes.

it's a dirty world Reich, say what you want

reply

If she had her legs open I could kind of see your point but all you see is some pubes. That isn't really offensive .
