Raven-why was this done??

I love the original "highlander"series ,but recently i saw this show on the Space Channel(havn't heard about it)and i was really suprised.
It was bad,it didn't have that special something and i didn't like it.
So why was this show done??

reply

Didn't you know? At this point, they weren't making the same money and the writers started coming off the crack. They had to do something.

reply

It could have been good if some jackass producer didn't stand up and say "You know what we need? Another cheesy cop show." I hate Nick Wolfe, the show should have been about Amanda.

She still looks better with dark hair, though.

The reason that "Raven" was done was simple; Adrian Paul didn't want to be tied down to "Highlander" anymore and felt that it was career limiting. Yet more money could be made. The 6th season only had Paul in a handful of episodes with the rest being devoted to a female immortal of the week. They basically were using this as a testing ground for both a spin off/continuation of "Highlander" and a chance to audition the various actresses.

"Highlander: Raven" went forward without the necessary money to do the show (they ran out of funds at one point midseason as the production company had spent those funds acquiring other companies and was strapped for cash). The series was compromised from the start; Elizabeth Gracen was taking advice from her psychotic boyfriend (according to her) which she believed had mob connections (and she was led to believe that's why she got the job according to her). She also was led to believe that Paul Johnasson was who they wanted for the lead which increased their conflict on the set. Basically it appears that this spin off was compromised from the get go. "Highlander: Raven" was done because they could flog the horse for another mile before it died of exhaustion.

As to the series, it has some clever dialog, solid performances but as creative consultant David Abramowitz points out spin-off's rarely succeed.

hey.. although i don't like all those cop shows. but this one was even better than others.

and i like amanda more in her spin off than in the highlander series - and i love the highlander series!

but i think i just saw ... well i dunno. think, the firs time was till 'nick' died. had the show a proper end? or was this the end *wonder* recently i have a hand for shows that do not end, cause they think its not worth *sigh*
whatever. lately, i just watched till episode 10 or so.

and your right... its kind of... well.. that cop thing. but highlander itself had this direction the one or the other time.

but still i think, that the should have made a spin off with methos *convincing smile*... would have loved his smart way of being ... whatever *gg* that will be up to my fantasy anyway, cause i dont get that spin off -.-

It's true that this show wasn't as good as its predecessor (except the final season for the original Highlander, which reeked). But I was still sad to see it not come back for season two. For starters, the chemistry between Amanda and Nick was the best I've ever seen in fiction, and both actors were very charming.

Plus, we did have some great episodes. The one of the WW1 soldier who lost all his comrades after Amanda's robbery was the best of the season, and the best piece of film I've seen anywhere, period.

I think the producers tried to branch out so as to give a mortal who had no knowledge immortals a taste of living in their world. So we had hero Nick taking off the heads of immortal bad guys now, which was quite appropriate. It gave the chance for viewers to watch Nick react to the immortal scenario, and live vicariously through him, as mortals weren't usually involved with immortals much in the original show. At least not without being part of the Watchers, and even then, only bad mortals killed immortals. So here, mortals get to be heroes, not just villains or civilians who need to be rescued by Duncan.

Great idea, but only sometimes executed well. Too bad. It was a nice show :(

the show had something you are right.

and i have to admit, i liked amanda more in here spin off than as the little week thief she used to be in the highlander series.

well... that point i didn't considere before... good mortals bad mortals.... and killing immortals. i gonna think about that (o;

at least... it's realy a pitty that this show has been canceled... although it wasn't my favorite one, but it hat his moments. and a proper end might have been the best thing to give.

but i had this stuff... mortal stucks in problems, duncan comes to rescue. realy annoying if this happens in 95% of the show.

i am gonna make it (o;

I remember the chemistry being good too...which is why I find all the reports to the contrary weird.

At any rate, it was one of my favorite shows from the 90's. Loved the twist at the end, though obviously I'd have liked a second season.

Frasier, Angel, Boston Legal...Joey?

They all did well, Joey aside.

I have no idea, I never quite liked Amanda to begin with, she was OK but she was a bit annoying and in my mind she couldn't fight. She usually fled using a series of cute little acrobatic moves to show off her circus star past and/or fled to Duncan for help. When she did fight it just seemed like this random stabbing motions made toward her opponants general direction. I think that if they wanted to do a spin-off Methios would have been the much better choice, he's well loved and there's enough meat there, with his being 5000 years old and such to give the writers a lot of inspiration and ideas.

Mr. Adam Pierson:

The possibilities of a spinoff of Methos is astronomical. They could go all the way back to Ancient Greece to when he was a slave, or fast forward to Egypt, Rome, the Dark Ages. Give us a glimpse of history in which not many know of what happened during that time. My god, the Methos project would have been awesome. If i had a dying wish, it would be to become an immortal and witness all the heartaches of human history from the beginning to the end. Some ideas need to be tapped into. This particular one would not only be historically stimulating, but would also be one of correctness. To accuratly portray how life was through all those years, and to witness all of your loved ones die throughout.

In Methos's case, it'd be interesting to elaborate on the 4 horsemen idea and explain what drew him to become the madman he became.

Anyway,
Think about it,

Oh you evil bunch. You make me wish that they had gone down the Methos path but since Highlander's time has passed, that's probably a super-low chance of that happening. Maybe there's some fanfiction out there.

reply

well you can look forward to the new movie "Highlander:The Source" coming out in the first half of 2007. and yes Methos is in it.

edit.. a few years late maybe.
I should probably mention that Highlander Source was the worst embodiment of the highlander Franchise ever... including highlander 2 :s

There is an internet cartoon series called The Methos Chronicles. It was an official production with the actor from the show voicing the character.

...and when you retire: your very own jukebox!
