This is not as bad as people make it out to be...

..It's actually quite entertaining if you look at it for it's own value, and don't compare it to the main TV series. I think the characters could have worked well if they had left the immortal angle out altogether, and just played Amanda as a straight forward professional thief. The trouble was that the "game" or whatever you'd like to call it became a distraction from the story, rather than the main focus.

I've got the box series, and I think even the main actors make it out to be worse than it is. They say there was no chemistry between Paul and Elizabeth, but I think they worked well together. Obviously Elizabeth's personal problems impacted badly on the show, but for me it was "decent".

yeah I think if they had another season they could have worked out the problems

Either that or they could have offered Peter Wingfield a series as Methos, just to keep things ticking over until Adrian Paul realised he wasn't going to be a major movie star.

This was Cactus Charlie's idea.

There's no doubt that the Highlander franchise has been fundamentally flawed since the first film. And yet... no other series intrigues me like Highlander.

When William Hartnell couldn't do Doctor Who anymore due to his health back in 1966, they had him regenerate into Patrick Troughton. They didn't bother to think of an explanation then, they invented the "Time Lord" thing with Jon Pertwee's regeneration in 1970. I think they should have done that with Highlander, basically let things evolve, and think of solutions down the line.

The worst thing they did in Highlander II was to make the immortals alien. We needed them to be human beings. I think there was no explanation nescesssary. The story should have been that there have always been a proportion of human being who were immortal. Part of the evolutionary process, perhaps.

I actually liked this show. It wasn't the original series, but it wasn't meant to be. I think the show allowed Amanda's character to grown even more. She could still be playful, but was more conscious of her actions. I too think that if this show had been given the chance to have another season it could have developed into an even better show. However, all too often the PTBs of these networks think they know best and cancel a show after just one season instead of giving it a chance to grow. It would be nice if this series would at least get an ending instead of just leaving it as is, even if it was just a book.

I think it would have been great if they'd teamed Amanda up with Cassandra. Their personalities are so different, kind of equals but opposites. Cassandra's witchcraft and Amanda thieving would have made a powerful combination.

I would have liked to see the character of Michelle Webster, the young Immortal that Duncan brought to Amanda to train actually show up on the show. Supposedly, Michelle was living in a convent in France while Amanda trained her to fight and survive. The flashbacks to Amanda's life and her teacher were great in the Highlander series and I would have loved to see Amanda be someone's mother hen or teacher on the show.

Although at the time Cassandra was busy running Babylon 5.

As I see it, they continued the entertainment, but failed to capture the depth
of the original series. Most of it was the flashbacks. In the Raven, they were entertaining, sometimes gave a bit character development, and never put the spin on history they did in the original series.
