(Spoilers)
It's been a long while since i last saw this but which of the characters die (notably at Alan's hands)? I recall Floyd Bibbs (Meatloaf) and Odell Parks (Robert Forster) are among the victims but I can't be sure for certain. Plus how did Alan kill his victims? Oh and if he did die, who killed Alan (David Paymer) and how?
I know it's been awhile since Corso's post, but because I watched the 2nd half last night, I'll weigh in for other readers ....
The 2nd half of the film showed a killing of 2 lady drivers (one was actress Sherilyn Fenn) on the way to Abilene, TX, after Alan caught a ride with them when his car appeared broken down. He killed both at a rest stop on a deserted part of Highway. He killed the driver by hitting her with the top of a commode tank top. We didn't see how he killed Sherilyn Fenn's character, but could assume something similar.
The last poster is correct about the two women getting killed. Those are the only ones we are shown. The female agent following the killer from Chicago spoke of other kills he'd done previously.
Supposedly Alan was trying to get more victims when he headed his car toward the truck the Dine women were in. This triggered one of the best staged vehicle accidents I've ever seen on film. You need to see it so I won't say any more, except Alan does die as a result in a very fitting manner.
I liked the film a lot. The players were all believable and entertaining.
