Ernie Klump's role in the film

I dont like how his role is so minor when he is supposed to be one of the Klump family members.

It's called The Klumps, so he should have a major role just like Mama, Papa and Granny. He rarely appears in the film and when he does it's always brief.

Where was his son little Ernie's mother?

reply

She's never mentioned, it's implied he's a single dad

Why did they even give him a son? Since he coudln't have been played by Eddie Murphy since he was a kid.

I thought the little fat boy was Sherman and Ernie's younger brother. Cletus and Hattie Mae didnt seem like grandparents in the first film. It wasn't really address until the second movie that Ernie was a father.

Exactly, it seem like thats what the writers had us the audience think. I believe Ernie, Jr should have had another name and just be a brother because Ernie being a father was rather pointless.

One pf the main criticisms of this movie is that some of the KLUMPS were given their own subplots. Him (and his son) not getting one is a good thing!

reply

Why is that a good thing? I don't really mind them not getting their own storyline. At least we got to see them. I wouldn't mind if they did have one. But why do you feel like they shouldn't have had one?

reply

As I said, most people didn't like the idea of any of them getting a subplot. They were hilarious in the 1st installment because the dinner scenes felt like an S.N.L. sketch where the only goal was to show Eddie Murphy's ability to transform, but they weren't really relevant to the story. It's hard to treat them as serious characters.

They weren't really serious to begin with, so it's not like we have to see them as serious in order for them to get a subplot. I think it's great they decided to make this movie more than just Sherman and Buddy again. As a sequel, this movie should expand on it's characters and not keep them limited. Plus, this movie would have been a lot shorter had it just focused strictly on the Sherman and Buddy storylines. Plus the subplot moments were funny. I don't know why people are hating.
