what was that song?

Hey, what was that classic song playing on that record player when John Travolta finds Christopher Walken dead of an apparent suicide? Not that cool library of congress song Sea Lion Woman or the modern She Began To Lie. I think it sounded like a king arthur calvary charge tragedy kind of thing.

reply

Christopher Walken was not in this movie at all. You're thinking of James Wood.

But I also have the same question.

reply

It's from CARMINA BURANA; the composer was Carl Orff. (And it was James Woods, not Chris Walken...)

The composition is available on CD. I recommend the EMI Classics version (1990).

I think the exact song is "O Fortuna".

reply

Anyone who knows what song it is in the beginning of the movie?

reply

It is titled as "Sea Lion Woman". You cn find it by a search in Napster.

Sea Lion Woman

Sea Lion Woman / Sea Lion
She drank coffee / Sea Lion
She drank tea / Sea Lion
And he gamble lie / Sea Lion

Way down yonder / Sea Lion
I'm going maul / Sea Lion
And the rooster crow / Sea Lion
and he got no lie / Sea Lion

Sea lion woman / Sea Lion
she drank coffee / Sea Lion
She drank tea / Sea Lion
And she gamble lie / Sea Lion

Sea lion woman / Sea Lion
she drank coffee / Sea Lion
She drank tea / Sea Lion
And a gamble lie / Sea Lion

"Sea Lion Woman", sung by Christine and Katherine Shipp, was recorded
for the Library of Congress by Herbert Halpert in Byhalia, Mississippi in
May of 1939. It is available on the CD "A Treasury of Library of Congress
Field Recordings" selected and annotated by Stephen Wade, Rounder CD
1500. The liner notes mention that the actual title of this playground song
might be See [the] Lyin' Woman, C-Line Woman, or Sea Lion Woman.
