Funniest Scene

I would have to say when Arlene and Betsy are skipping down the street holding hands.

When Haldeman comes home, after his phone call & Betsy & Chip come down the stairs & then he realizes who it is & Betsy & Arlene scream & run outside. The way they scream has always made me laugh & then he says 'Come back here you little bitches.' ha I love that movie.

I am waves crashing onto you

What cracked me up about that scene was the way Haldeman refused to just drop it when she was clearly trying to hide her face. Dave Foley's silly head movements made me laugh.

reply

do you have any idea what the song in the background is for that scene??

reply

There were three funny scenes in the movie, they weren't the funniest, but they made me laugh out loud.

The first was very subtle, when Arlene and Betsy are leaving to post the letter at the start of the movie, and as Betsy leaves the room she does this ditzy girly jump, I never noticed it the first time round, but when I caught it I lost it.

The second was the part when Arlene and Betsy confront Dick.

Dick: Let me tell you, if it's about that goddamn Watergate! I tell you, I had NOTHING to do with it, you hear? It's those goddamn Woodward and Burnstein! They're out to get me!
Arlene: Actually it was just about the dog.

Then Betsy is just looking at him with an angry face and says:

You act like you like him. But we don't think you do.

LOL! I laughed so hard, it was so stupid, who cares about the dog.

And when Dick points at the girls in an accusing way and says "Overdue library Books" LOL! Who cares.

I'd also like to add, the real reason behind the 18 and a half minute gap lol, and of course "Dick frightens me" LOL! The Dancing Queen ending, when Betsy and Arlene are skating around Dick's office and sucking the Dick Lollipops lol. Oh and one more, the scene when the teacher is trying to get the class excited about visiting the White House, and of course everyone gets excited that they're going to McDonalds afterwards lol.

Betsy: I LOVE MCDONALDS! French Fries! French Fries!

ONE MORE! Then I'm done I promise. When Dick is eating the cookies with weed in them, they he says "I'm feeling lightheaded... WooHoo!" Then the girls giggle and Arlene says "WOOHOO" and sounds like a retard lol.

Michael Scott: What is a Pap smear? Or is it shmear?

reply

French fries! French fries! Mmmmmm

reply

YESSS: Girls confronting Dick in Oval Office...

Dick: "WHAT dog???"
Girls: (both give cold SHUDDER with contempt and absolute revulsion by hearing this...)
------
Arlene: "But now that you mention it, a lot of people say that you lie..."
Betsy: "and I'M JEWISH!"
------
And after Dick tosses the files at them...correction: DICK says,

"overdue li-BARRY books!" (Li-barry!)

("The whole Kitten-Kaboodle!")
-----
Arlene: "You're a bad man!"
Dick: "YOU DON'T MESS with the BIG BOYS!!!"

LOL!

Mine is when Arlene and Betsy are at the roller rink and Arlene yells, "OH GOD I LOVE DICK!!!"

I'm so immature because that cracks me the hell up!!! LOLOLOL!!

reply

... when they first see/meet the dog in the White House. They both go "Awwww" in girly unison - it's in the background and subtle, but funny to me.

... the teacher and other kids' response to the girls being late back on the bus, since they miss the field trip lunch to McDonald's.

...And basically, most of Betsy's deadpan responses to the various adults. Very funny.

One of the scenes that had me cracking up was when Nixon was in the white house drinking and Checkers started whining, and Nixon says "Shutup Checkers, or i'll feed you to the chinese"! Also the Scene where Chip tells Betsy that Brad is at the Dermotologist. the was he says it all serious like had me dying with laughter!!!

reply

I think the funniest scene is the end where Nixon is flying over Washington in the helicopter and sees the girls with their banner that says, "You Suck Dick"!

reply

And when Nixon sees the banner, he flips them the bird. LOL

reply

I'm shocked that no one found the humor in Nixon listening to the tape at the end with Arlene singing to him. His reactions were hilarious in the fact that it could be misconstrued that he was having an affair with a young teenage girl which more than likely would dwarf the Watergate scandal if not, pour more salt on an open wound.

"Ooooohhhh, ugh, oooohhh...Watergate my ass! They'll CRUCIFY me for this!" I lose it every single time. Dan Hedaya plays that part brilliantly.

Checkers little whimper as he recognized her voice was a nice little detail IMO.

"I can't believe that Bryce prefers Van Patten's card to mine..."

reply

Agreed, Frostorm! Explaining THE NIXON TAPES.
(Arlene singing..."I Honestly Love You")
Dick: "What in the Jeeez is THAT? Ohhhh no-no-no. The 15-year-olds! Watergate my ass!...(whimpering dog) Checkers! SHUDDUP! Or I'll feed ya to the Chinese! (back to the tape) Erase this sh*t."

Dick hits the ERASE button. (As is suspected actually happened; not accidentally done by his secretary Rosemary Woods. To this day, WHAT was Nixon saying to Haldeman that got erased? Everyone's dead: Dick, Bob and Rosemary.)
------
(RW: when Arlene was recording, "I Honestly Love You," Betsy comes back from walking Checkers and interrupts Arlene while looking at her watch, "I can't believe you've been recording for 18-and-a-half-minutes!!" The exact duration of time "missing" from the Nixon Tapes. El-oh-El'd!)

CUT TO:

Betsy's kitchen. The Hello Dollies cookies are back. Larry baked a batch.
Betsy: "HELLO DOLLIES! Where did you get the recipe? It was stolen!"
Larry: "It's on the back of every can, lame-brain."
Girls: "Ohhhhhh..."
Larry: "EXCEPT...for one special Larry Jobs addition." (picks up the glass canister of walnuts mixed with weed and takes a big whiff) "I keep 'em mixed up with the walnuts!" (smiles)
Betsy: "You said these were just walnut leaves."
Larry: "I lied."
Arlene: "The President ate those."
Larry (mocking/disbelieving): "Oh yeah...right, 'your pal,' Tricky Dick."
Betsy: "NO! REALLY!"
Larry: "Woahhh. Maybe THAT's why he's so PARANOID...."

-----
THIS stuff is Hiss-Tare-Uh-KILL!

("And they'll never lie to us again...")

reply

When Leonid Breshnev breaks into "Hello Dolly" and all the diplomats in the room join in.

Garcon! A bucket for Monsieur!

reply

"Every lie is another brick to the pathway to hell" however it goes, gets me everytime, brings me back to Sunday school with the nuns and of course the McDonalds hype and the "cold cafeteria lunch" punishment.

How could I forget the hair swoop in the make-out scene and how great time has been to Ryan Reynolds and Michelle Williams.

I wish I could get all the Watergate and 70s popculture jokes and jabs without google like my mother who was 15 during Watergate and obeessed with Bobby Sherman.
