I think I might be going mad. Something seemed off. Who is the guy in the back of the car, the one that makes out with the girl after she goes out with the other one? I got that he was some sort of boyfriend, but later on we get Jesse as her man and the first dude gets lost somewhere. Was Jesse some sort of long lost love?

Are you talking about their gay friend, David? The one who showed up in the beginning to take Jane to the prom?

The guy in the back was her actual boyfriend. I'm guessing her uncle(the police chief) wouldn't let her see Jesse so their gay friend was pretending to take her out so she could be with Jesse
