Are you surprised that nobody ever tried to be like the Saints?

With all the cities and all the millions of people who live in them in America, are you surprised that nobody ever decided to attempt to avenge the public by going out and killing criminals on a regular basis until they are caught? I am a bit surprised it never happen, it would be much harder to take on mob bosses and things like that, but common street criminals could be done. Especially now with social media I am surprised that nobody ever started it just to instantly become the most popular guy in America for a bit. Yes, I know in the start to Kick Ass they ask the question of why nobody ever tried to be a super-hero, and explain why that's impossible, but this is different and could conceivably happen.

The police/courts would spend a lot of time, taxpayer's money and energy hunting down and eliminating this kind of vigilantism because (a) the state cannot lose its monopoly of violence, and (b) crime bankrolls the police, courts and insurance industry.

Who says no one ever did? The newspapers just flat out refuse to report these kind of things.

Don't do it the same way twice, leave behind nothing in the way of clues or DNA, and you'll pretty much never be caught.

I'm not surprised because it honestly wouldn't work out in real life... the Saints were just EXTREMELY lucky.

No, because it's immoral and stupid.

Ten commandments, maybe? I don't believe in a deity, so it's extra immoral to me.
