Kimball the most inept PI


I posted something a couple years ago about Kimball seeming to give Bateman an "out" on every occasion, but I'm watching this again and the #1 rule of a detective/law enforcement is don't tell the suspect what you know, and Kimball keeps giving Bateman key info every time Bateman is stumped by a question. Why does Kimball keep doing this?

Bateman is suppose to be an unreliable narrator, so we cannot be sure what we are presented with is the truth. I also think Kimball is trying to get Bateman to make a major slip up in his story. Kimball does show his the Huey Lewis and the news cd and asks him in a sinister way if he likes that music.

The character of Kimball was designed to trip us up. I heard that each scene with him was filmed the ways. Dafoe was told to play him as if he deeply suspected Bateman, as if he didn't suspect him at all and as if he was was genuinely asking questions. The takes were mixed up so we are can't figure out what's going on
