Other actors who could've played Patrick Bateman...

As far as I know, Leonardo DiCaprio was considered for the role of Patrick. As much as I like Leonardo as an actor, I'm glad he didn't star in this movie. Christian Bale seemed much more fitting for the role.

But what if Tom Cruise would've played Patrick Bateman? Can you imagine that? That's the only other actor who I think could've really pulled off that particular character. I mean, Tom Cruise is kinda crazy to begin with.

Or get this...what about Matthew Mcconaughey? lol...seriously, try to imagine that. Now of course, he would've had to adjust his southern accent for the role.

Or what about Arnold Shwarznegger? lol...he would definitely be the strongest Patrick Bateman.

Or on a more serious note, what about Daniel Day Lewis?

Dennis Quaid? He's about the right age, and can play smug bastards beautifully, although there's no way he could have been as awesome as Bale.

Same for Johnny Depp, who was on his game back then, and who can play creeps. Of course he'd never have been as good as Bale turned out to be.

And Richard Gere and Daniel Day-Lewis were around the right age, but they'd never have been quite as perfect as Bale.

Are you sensing a theme here?

Even though Christian Bale was perfect, I still think it would've been interesting to see Daniel Day Lewis in the role. I mean...have you seen There Will Be Blood? He could definitely portray a psycho. But then again, Bale's overall appearance is more fitting for the character.

Christian Bale was perfect as Patrick Bateman. After his outburst on the set of Terminator Salvation (2009), it pretty much convinced me that he was born to play the role.

Glad they didn't cast DiCaprio. What a dork.

I have it in my mind that a younger Jim Carey would have been absolutely perfect for the role. I think he would have made a better Patrick Bateman than Bale. Both in appearance and dramatic/comic ability.

Tom Cruise?? Jim Carrey?? Arnold fucking Schwarzenneger???

What are you guys smoking??? They are AWFUL actors. Okay Cruise might have done a few good performances, but not freaking way I would cast him instead of Bale. Bale was the perfect fit and I don't want anyone else there.

This being said, if not Bale, I would agree that Day-Lewis or McConnaughey could have been interesting choices.

I was serious about Tom Cruise. He definitely seems like he could've portrayed Patrick Bateman. I was just kidding around about Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Okay... and what was the point you tried to make? It's not "bad" but I still stick to my opinion: I don't want him in that role. Bale had done an amazing job WAY better than Cruise would had.
