Just had to say this...

Being born in 1975, I was a cartoon-watching kid at the exact right time to catch Richie Rich fairly often. As a kid, I was entertained by it, but I also remember it not being my favorite show, or even close. Even 7-8 year old have opinions!

But now that my OWN kids are hooked on Boomerang, and the old cartoons they show there, I have had the opportunity to re-watch the Richie Rich cartoon as a 33 year old.

And lemme just say: This cartoon is painfully and embarrassingly bad. Its very clear that the show is SUPPOSED to be absurd, but they do not pull off creating an entertaining absurdity. Its just no-attention-span, 1980's cartoon cocaine crap. Pretentious, sloppy, boring, asinine, uncreative, and just plain BAD. Some of the worst attempts at moving the "plot" along, as well as even worse attempts at slapstick humor, involve Richie's dog, Dollar. Its not clear whether Dollar is supposed to be tastelessly depicted as mentally challenged ("retarded") or not, but the dog's absurd behavior is ridiculously overused. Not to mention Dollar's "psychotic monkey" vocal sounds, which make me want to puke, change the channel, and come on IMDb to tell the world how lame this pathetic show is.

The main issue is, as I said, that the show does NOT delve into the absurd in a creative, interesting way. It's terribly forced, horribly animated, and exceedingly exploitive.

Richie Rich isn't offensive, insulting, or controversial - at least I don't think so anyway. But what it IS is awful. Awful all the way around. Even the theme song contains elements of reworked Scooby Doo musical themes. This whole show is pre-canned to the max, and shamefully embarrassing to watch.

The classic cartoons from the 1950's, 60's, 70's and 80's all have a certain amount of bad shows, but Richie Rich is very very close to the Bottom 10 for sure.

Ouch my brain!

I'm used to no one liking what I like.

I agree 100%/ I hated Dollar! I remember as a kid wanting Dollar to die or get lost. He completely slowed the show down. The only thing I kind of liked was the robot maid. Even though it was a rip from the Jetsons. I think The kid from Silver Spoons was the voice of richie.

Not even close to the bottom 10, but if it makes you feel like a big 33 year old man to rip a cartoon nearly 30 years old to pieces with jaded eyes than go right ahead.

Try not to take life too seriously, no one gets out alive.

Even though we only have half a season on DVD, i think the show isn't that bad but i don't think it's that special either. It's respectively okay. I don't find it embarrassingly bad.

Gamefaqs has a far worse population than IMDB
