Oh, Flurry!

I can't believe there are no topics for this board yet! So I thought I would start one...
I have this whole series on VHS (purchased before it came out on DVD, dammit!) and it has always been one of my all-time faves. The gorgeous scenery, eccentric characters and witty dialogue are a treat. I actually taped it on Beta during its first run, but alas, I now have no way to watch those tapes! LOL
I always had a crush on Florence McCarthy Knox (Flurry to his friends) and was surprised to see him years later doing TV commercials for Irish Spring soap.
I have also read the book by Sommerville and Ross and it is really a hoot. The series is very true to the stories in the book and whenever I am re-reading it, I always picture the characters as portrayed in the show.
Anyone have a fave episode? I love "The Aussolas Martin Cat"! It's spooky and funny.

So far I liked the one about horse stealing.

And imagine the WILD coicidence of me somehow re-watching 2 different things with Beryl Reid in them in the SAME day! (The other being YELLOWBEARD) I mean-- what are the odds???

"I always had a crush on Florence McCarthy Knox". So do I, though I fell in love with him in the book rather than the TV series. I like, "A Misdeal", "O Love, O Fire!" and "In the Curranhilty Country" best in the TV series. (The ones with most of Flurry in them obviously). I like the "The Aussolas Martin Cat" in the book but I think the televised version suffers from the absence of Mrs Knox, leaving Flurry nobody to fight.

Flurry is so endearing and mischievous, one can't help but be attracted to him.

I quite like it, though it is rather too sentimental compared to the books. i think it is well acted, I particularly like mrs Cadogan, i think she is very good. flurry i find a bit too arch, he doesn't come across like that in the books.

I was somewhat taken aback by Flurry's unhelpful attitude with the 'mountain man' whom the Yeates 'hit' with their cart. But, he redeemed himself with how he behaved when Anthony went missing down the mine.

Truly a great show.....they don't make them like this anymore **

I too love the series though don't have a crush on Flurry. I like to 'read around a subject' and have looked up many a recipe, traditional game (road bowling).

I bought the book yet haven't got round to it yet - are all the stories covered in the TV series? I wonder if there's scope for a remake? They seem to have remade everything else.

This is a great series.
