Hear, hear. It was definitely a lackluster sequel.

I definetely pretend that this sequel doesn't exist. It ruins the whole point of the first movie: the relationship between John Smith and Pocahontas. Without that, Smith would have died at the hands of Chief Powhatan. I understand that she thought he had died in this sequel, but seriously why drastically change Smith's personality just so she can go with John Rolfe? If the Walt Disney Company had originally intended to tell the history of Pocahontas and John Rolfe then the parting between John Smith and Pocahontas would have been only the half-way point to her meeting with John Rolfe in England if they were going to develop that story (much like it was portrayed in the film "The New World"). Since the Walt Disney Company didn't wish to portray that history, this sequel makes all of the emotional buildup in the first film mean absolutely nothing!

Just wanted to say: I absolutely agree. Not to to mention the fact that we saw almost nothing happen between John Rolfe and Pocahontas. I mean, they get on the ship- they're grudingly cordial. They get off the ship- they're smiling at eachother, and the next thing you know he's defending her honor and they're in love! When the heck did THAT happen!?!
The only thing I can come up with is that this must have happened before people realized that if it's been more than 2 years and the first one came to a conclusion then you really can't continue the same story.
Take Lady and the Tramp 2 for instance. 46 YEARS passed between the first and the second, but it still managed to be a decent movie because they created a new original plot! Granted, the sequel doesn't compare to the first (that's a lot to live up to), but it was still a pretty decent movie in its own right.

I loved the first movie I was very disappointed with the second movie I wanted Pocahontas and John Smith to end up together even if it didn't happen in real life.
