samari's mage

ok iv been reading the manga of lone wolf and cub i just finished the 4th book if you like these film you should give them a read thay are verry good and the films are pretty faithfull to the manga,

anyway i have a question to peaple that have read the manga, in the manga o yuki the woman with the tatoo after killing the samari that hunt her she cuts of ther hair wich i think ogami itto referse to as thir mage he ses somthing about discraseing ther samari name by doing this and that ther famly and clan will be shamed by this hapening to someone in ther famly or clan can anyone elaborate why it is such a discrase for a samari to have his mage cut off and if infact the mage is that bit of hair she cut off
