What happened to Gunbei Yagyu??? In "Jigoku e ikuzo! Daigoro" (German version) it was said he died. But I only saw how Okami cut his arm off. So was there something in the series or somewhere else Gunbei died or was the story about is death only a misunderstanding???

After cutting his arm, Itto Ogami says to him something like "You're already dead. Dead people can't be killed."
So he lets him alive, with one arm off, but alive.
In my version of the move on DVD (US R1, Animeigo), he shows up at the very end, on horseback, and delivers a couple of lines. One can only assume he put a turniquet on his arm to avoid bleeding to death.
Very enjoyable film overall.
in the manga he kills him but also he isnt calld gunbei or have any conetion to the yagu clan what so ever he is just a random guy

In the German version I have he also shows up on a horse and "demands" that lone wolf has to survive so that he can one day kill him.

Exactly, he shows up at the end and demands that Lone Wolf must go on living so that he alone can kill him. Yet he doesn't turn up in the last two movies. So its a bit of a dead end.
