Did Valentin Shoot Bond?

One think always wondered is when Valentin Zuchovsky is shot he has a gun in his walking stick and he at first points it at Elektra but then at Bond and shoots the wrist cuff of the chair so he can escape.

I know he shoots it to help Bond

But why does Elektra say 'Zuchovsky really hated you'

Though it could mean she didnt see what he had done.

reply

She probably knew Zuchovsky was former KGB (or at least had history with Bond) and even though she shot him, he chose to use his only shot at Bond (supposidly to kill) rather than get revenge on her, hence he must have hated Bond more. At least the way I was reading it.

We never really know Zuchovsky’s intention other than Zuchovsky himself. Logically, Zuchovsky will want to use his last breath to shoot the one who killed him. That is why he pointed at Elektra. Elektra was shocked when she heard the gun clicked. She was so anxious and expects death. But, when she slowly turned around and look at Zuchovsky and when Zuchovsky saw her, he decided to turn around and shoot Bond instead. Did he missed Bond or did he intentionally shot to release him to revenge for him and save the world? Only Zuchovsky knows.

The way I see it, Zuchovsky wanted to shoot Elektra, but upon he couldn’t do it maybe she’s too hot. So, he choose to shot Bond to eliminate any threat to Elektra. At least that is how Elektra reads it.

Only Zuchovsky knows.
Well he winks at Bond before he dies so I think his his intent is clearly to free Bond. Zuchovsky knows the plan goes far beyond Electra. Wasting his one shot on her when others are responsible for the death of his nephew and the hijacking of the sub would be pointless. Free Bond so he can get revenge on everyone and foil the caper. What would ambiguity add to the plot?

Yes, but then what goes on in Electra's mind when she says Zuchovsky really hates you, to Bond. To her, she shot Zuchovsky, instead of shooting her back, he choose to shoot Bond. What does all these mean to Electra?

reply

No I agree that's what Electra thought but you said only Zuchovsky knows and that we don't know what his intentions are. Even though he's initially dubious I think both Zuchovsky and Bond are both aware whathat he intended. Zuchovsky winks and Bond gives a slight nod. And as for us I think a lot of people recognise that Zuchovsky meant to free Bond when he shifts his aim. Quite frankly IMO how Electra didn't notice the shift can only be put down to the fact that she's not too bright.

Yes, it may appear that way. Zuchovsky, in his dying moment shot bond to free him so that he can save the world.

But again, it is a complex moment. He just got shot and is dying. It takes a lot of last minute brain power to come out with a grand plan and execute them properly. Like, shoot well, free him, let him kill that bitxx for me, and then save the world.

Anyone who just got shot from the killer will instantaneously use his last ditch effort to kill that person who take his life. Its just automatic reaction I think, but then Zuchovsky is not anybody.

Isn’t is easier to just shoot at Electra? Revenged done. Mission accomplished. Why is there a need to free Bond to take down Electra? He can easily end it there and then by shooting Electra. I think he wanted to give both of them a chance, a more level ground on the situation.

Well as I said Zuchovsky would have known even before being shot by Electra that there was a bigger plot beyond her even to the point that one of his own guys tried to blow him up. He arrived at the lighthouse en force and I think he knew even in his dying moments that killing Electra would have been scant consolation when Bond could have brought down the entire operation that killed his Nephew and intended to use the sub for no good.
