This movie gets way too much *beep* cause of Denise Richards

Really, it's because of Denise Richards people hate on it so hard. It's a pretty good James Bond movie when you don't take her acting into account. If were gonna talk about her acting, she's the worst Bond girl but look wise absolutely not. I felt that Pierce Brosnan did really well here and gave probably his best performance of all the Bond movies he was in. Judi Dench was great too. Anyone else feel that it has a lot of similarities to The Dark Knight Rises in terms of it's villains and story structure with a nuclear weapon being a subplot.

You guys should check out the marathon I did for this movie titled When Heroes Fall and Rise Again. You can check it out on my blog.

Agreed, though I don't mind Denise Richards as Christmas Jones. She adds spunk to the role and really do like her scenes at the bunker - and of course in a wet white tee.

Also, it's a James Bond film - at least half of the Bond girls aren't the best actors in the world, and all the girls that Bond comes across in his missions (who are intended to be love interests) just happen to be sexy: the only civilian at Crab Key is Ursula Andress, the sister of a NATO pilot is also the girlfriend of the villain and she is Miss France, the sole surviving computer programmer in Servernya is sexy as hell… Why can't a nuclear physicist look like Denise Richards?

First time through, hated it because of her. She looked 18 and was playing a nuclear scientist...just no way.

After a re-watch, it didn't bother me so much, and I liked it much better recently.

reply

It's definitely the second best Pierce Brosnan Bond flick. I always thought this one had some great action and villains.

reply

Agreed, I always loved this one but yeah OP's right, people crap on it because of Denise's acting it.

"I'm the ultimate badass, you do NOT wanna f-ck wit me!"Hudson,Aliens😬

reply

I'm actually re watching it right now as I tap this and she's not that bad. She may never win an award for her acting but she's more than acceptable in the role.

reply

She's absolutely fine in the film in a very underwritten part.

People just seem to jump on the accepted bandwagon that she's awful in the film which she certainly is not.

Was it a millionaire who said "Imagine no possessions"?

reply

Well, she WAS awful in it..besides her, it's ok.

reply

Yes.

Though, I dislike a couple Bond girls more than Richards (Tanya Roberts' shrieking space cadet and Halle Berry's painfully-shoehorned "Bond-equal" characters were more obnoxious than Richards failing to act with credibility as a scientist).

It would be like writing off Batman Begins because of Katie Holmes.

reply

Very good write-up, I bloody hate Tanya Roberts' role. Her and Tiffany Case are the worst Bond girls.

I never understood the hate for Christmas Jones and having rewatched it just now - I still don't get it. She does a fine job, a lot better than a hell of a lot of Bond girls. People must be tainted from knowing her from previous stuff. (I've never seen her outside a small part in Love Actually.)

It doesn't ruin it necessarily but it can hurt it.

I will state that your opinion on what matters will not be shared by everyone. A weak performance of even a minor character in any film hurts the quality of the film for myself. If it doesn't for you that is fine, but stop expecting your thoughts and opinions to be held by everyone.

I also would not agree my favorite Bond girls all give strong performances and have characters and are not simply eye candy. You disagree, once again that is fine, but in this case whilst it didn't ruin the film (something I never said) it did hurt it. This is especially the case as her character could easily have been writing out of the film and allowed for Sophie Marceau or similar to have extra screen time. Who was not only beautiful but felt necessary to the story and was well acted.

And that's your opinion. And that's fine, but don't expect said opinion to be shared by everyone. Understand? Good.

Oh my, that is trully amazing. All I did is give my opinion then you acted like there was something wrong with having an opinion. Get of your high horse, you're the only one who has acted like having an opposing opinion is bad/wrong.

Learn to read. That is all, I never suggested such a thing. You seem to be quite the bad troll though, either that or you are well.... well I would prefer you just be a troll.

Talisa Soto I think is far worse. Not saying that Denise was good. She is certainly the low point of this otherwise fun film, she just wasn't as horrid as Talisa was.

Kelly Kapowski was so close to being cast. Denise isn't bad like people say she is.
