Edith Mooers.

Today she celebrates a birthday.

I once mailed in for a Zoom card. Turns out they were out of them so they sent a photo of Edith instead. On the back was a method of cooking a fish by "baking" it in the sand with a fire over it. This was shown on one of the episodes. What a ripoff. I wanted my Zoom card!

Dude . . . that WAS a ZOOMCard.

If, in your letter, you didn't ask for a particular thing shown on an episode, they'd send you a random ZOOMCard. Each had a picture of one of the cast members or a group shot, and inside (they folded), it would have one of those things from the show, like how to make styrofoam shoes you could walk on the surface of a pond with, or your cooking fish (I remember that, by the way...pack the fish in clay, put it under the hot coals, then slice the clay-pack open. I always thought that was cool).

I had two ZOOMCards myself. One with a picture of Tommy (everybody said I looked like him) that had how to make "Abbie's Buttonhole Puzzle" using a string and a popsicle stick, and one with a picture of the BIG cast (when they had 10 Zoomers instead of the normal 7) that had the rules of Ubbi-Dubbi.

Don't tell me what I got. It wasn't a zoom card. The letter enclosed apologized for not having any left. It said that they were out of them and that they hoped that this would suffice. This card was way larger than the Zoom card.

She grew up to be "scary" smart. She has a phd from MIT.

reply

Don't know what's scary about that.

reply

It is a Boston saying about someone smart.

reply

What does that mean?

reply

I'm impressed, because back then, she had trouble making an ice cream snowman ;)

Good for her, I hope the other cast members fared well post fame too. I wonder if they show clips of the show to their grandchildren?
