Favourite Sketch?

Since nobody has started up a message board for this delightful program, I thought I would.
What is your favourite skit from this show?

david mcgahn maybe?

reply

I'm sorry to seem pedantic, but, I'm fairly sure mcgahn wasn't on Micallef's program, oh not often anyway.

Anyway, good to see someone post on here! I always loved that claymation they had, infact I loved everything about the show!!

McGahn was on The Micallef P(r)ogram(me) quite frequently - most significantly in the 1st series in Dr Miracle, and in the 2nd in Ferguson.

Favourite sketch... at the moment, the Dracula/Seachange sketch.

Ant farms: cruel and barbaric, or not that bad really?

reply

Yeah, sorry, I was wrong, you are right. Another favourite sketch (Besides 'Il Est Myron' (sp?) ), there was one from 'The Micallef Pogram'. Sean hosts a segment about law issues, featuring overlong jingle, with Francis as a lawyer. They are speaking to a caller who, it ends up, has chopped his neighbour's head off and asks if he was within the law, as he 'threw the head back over the fence' lol (In context of laws to do with fencing act and related dispute with neighbour over encroaching tree)

reply

Oh yes, I remember that one... great! Nice closing line too... "stay on the line, because you're still wet."

reply

Yeah, lol. I memory is a little sketchy of the episodes as it's soo long ago. I only have that ep on video. I am looking at buying 'Micallef Programme' on DVD, it costs a fair bit, $35-40, still considering whether I should buy.

It's worth it. The extras are great.

I remember the lawyer one well.
I loved it. I only saw the third season of this on the Comedy Channel as that is where they were when I found this show (I don't actually know how I found it because I never look at the 5AM listings)
EDIT: I now have the season 2 DVD as well now

Also, David McGahan started out on Full Frontal every week, he had 1 David MaGahan sketch in 1996. He was also the travelling reporter in ANNNNN (Australian National Nightly Network News) on Full Frontal

reply

ANNNNN (Australian National Nightly Network News) - lol. Will definately get the season 2 DVD and Season 3 when it coems out soon.

Another scene is from season 2 I think where he is interviewing Tim Rogers from the band 'You am I' and he asked during the course off the interview what he would do/save if his house was burning down. Ofcourse, being the universe of the Micallef programme, after Tim's response, Sean reveals the instant surprise that (he says something like) 'Infact, if we go to your house now it is burning down right as we speaking, so you better hurry if you want to do those things you said.' So Rogers bursts off the set back home. Just one of those funny Micallef twists, reveal was great, it was a standard, straight setup, interview up to that point.

I'm personally a fan of the sketch where, "in an attempt to make the show appear live" Wayne goes into that man's house, and Shaun's ordering him to 'be more funny' and 'I said funny, not tedious' and they find out that this man is out of work and has no food and it's sooo awkward.

ALSO: When he gets the comedian in and ends up criticising her act and she runs off crying.

And when he's voted "Australia's most 'sexiest' man".

Boy I use the word 'and' a lot.

reply

The one where Wayne Hope is a computer salesman and talks about 'Megs' where shaun replies that 'she can use mine'. Classic i'view

reply

The racist joke funny one. When he's like "Should we laugh at racist jokes?" and Ros character said aburuptly "No!" and Shuan come right back with "But what if there funny?" BAM! crying soo much! Topicial humor at it's best!

best are them little tid bits he just slides in, like throwing from the segment to himself or the we now goto francis but i don't know why because the gag was in the opening part of the sketch. ooo and the blankety blanks at the end after the swearing his head off and he's like this is a family show and I won't abide flith!
thats all i can think of on the spot, seriously forever will be about of Ozzie TV history!

OH and excuse me mate your got a barra' on your head ha ha ha

reply

Dr Miracle is definitely up there. There's one where he tries to wink into the camera at the end. classic :)

...and Shauns interview with Helen Cockburn (with the silent 'ck')

Plagueface - I'm pretty sure it was "you've got a beret on your head".

STAT!

Oh yeah, and the one where he's a lawyer. What's that one called again?

I also really like the "I bloody dare you" sketch with Eli Lubich the Nazi war criminal.
And all the "Il Est Myron"s.

reply

Now I have series 1 & 2...

I really like the sketch with Francis Greenslade as a paranoid nervous wreck, who is being filmed all the time so has good reason fo being so. I think this is absolute genius.

Also the one that had everyne in the room cracking up and talking about it thereafter, was the Bach sketch going something like:

"Bach may not have been as successful if he hadn't lived there....300 feet under the sea for example. The lack of gills and a planctum only diet wouldn't have helped. He could have had extensive cosmetic surgery though....
The Moon also wouldn't have been ideal, especially after the surgery to turn him into a sea creature."

A perfect example of The Micallef show's silly humour and this is spot on!

"I didn't get where I am today without knowing where to write my signature Reggi......"

reply

I think my favourite sketch was the one with Milo Kerrigan. I adore that one.

And "English: Have A Go!" (I have baked a cake! It is chocolate!)

And any of the rotating room sketches :)

reply

So many great sketches to choose from. The one that really stands out right now for me was the racism discussion sketch. Dr Miracle was absolutely hilarious too. "Get out of my way old man!" *BANG* "... You alright?"

Noone has mentioned Sotto Voce.

"His enemies all fear him, but you can hardly hear him. Sotto Voce."

Maybe they would've, if he'd just speak up.

I'm currently rewatching the episodes. For me, Dr Miracle and Myron are my most memorable repeat sketches. Mind you, the beret sketch is one that over the years has stuck with me and has come to mind in similar situations. Then there is that bald lady sketch that shows that meeting halfway isn't always the best. ;)
