Has anyone else actually seen this movie?

I watched it on video a few years ago, then I bought the DVD and have since seen it probably a dozen times already. It was filmed in Los Angeles about a year after the last Zodiac murder, and then it played in San Francisco for a week in 1971. I must admit that it's terrible, but it does kind of give you a feel for the time the murders happened. It's also interesting to note that Doodles Weaver (Sigourney Weaver's uncle) has a bit part at the beginning of the movie.

I have seen this movie, and being an avid Zodiac "researcher" thought it was decent.

If anyone has read the 2 books on the Zodiac by Robert Graysmith....is this the movie that the cops staked out, looking for the real Zodiac?

It was. However, it played for only one week in April 1971 in San Francisco, and it was believed to have been seen by less than 1,000 people. Graysmith himself admitted to having seen it as well...

Just curious, what do you mean exactly?

Ebay carries it as well as Amazon (used) at a cheaper price that SW, same video but better deal.

I just saw it last night. I guess the idea was to make a movie about the Zodiac Killer in hopes that the real killer would show up to a screening and give himself away?

What city was this filmed in? I assumed it to be San Francisco, but the more I looked, the less it seemed to be. LA maybe?

Anyways, I love these old cheapie movies made in the 60's & 70's. Unlike most people, I dig the bad scripts, acting & production. Maybe or maybe not, but it makes me imagine that the film makers were doing it for better reasons than JUST to make money.

Many other films have been made about the Zodiac ever since this one. Dirty Harry (Scorpio is a fictionalized Zodiac), Ulli Lommell's Zodiac Killer, The Zodiac, and of course the 2007 David Fincher film Zodiac and The Curse of the Zodiac. All of them except Dirty Harry and David Fincher's Zodiac weren't well recepted.

I've seen this film. It has a certain seedy vibe to it that made it that much more creepy and unnerving. The scene with the couple by the lake being attacked and murdered was especially chilling.

I'm surprised you've watched it a dozen times if you feel it's terrible. Yes, much of the acting is atrocious, the musical scoring is awful and distracting, the script amateurish, etc. Yet the movie is unsettling due to the filming capturing the chilling atmosphere that existed at this time. Therefore, I wouldn't consider it to be terrible but not a movie that I would search out.

Dvr-ed the other night and watching it now. Pretty cheap feel, and the bar scene where baldy loses his toupee is poorly filmed and the boom mic is running rampant.
