Almost 14 years and this is still the worst movie I've ever seen

I know there are worse movies (anything made by he Syfy Channel for example), but in terms of disappointment and failing to live up to expectations even a little, this piece of crap still hasn't been surpassed.

Yet you still watch it.

reply

Only once. I had to make sure it was as awful as I remembered. It was.

reply

Well there is your problem, you cant grasp this movie with only one view. Theres so many detail, to much to take notice of thats crucial to the plot you WILL miss with only one view.

There is very few movies who can keep you thinking and pondering with several play troughs, this one really is one of those, and it gets better every time because you notice stuff that makes more sense every time. The movie is like a puzzle that presents a new piece with every view.

Condemning this movie on only one watch is plain stupidity.

most people grow and change as a person over time, so their taste in media changes. unfortunately you are not aware of this because, perhaps, you do not and are too self absorbed to look outside yourself.

reply

I thought it was pretty darned scary, in a subtle, stealthy way ... which in my view is about as scary as you can get.

reply

It's not a great film. But I like it for some reason. I like stories about old books.

reply

Why do people come on imdb and say a movie is the worst they've ever seen but don't give any reasons why? If you're not going to explain don't bother posting. I guess that's what they call a troll.

reply

same reason thousands of people come to imdb and say a movie was "the best they've ever seen" or "great" or "awesome" and give no reasons why. genuine negative comments are worth just as much as those positive comments.

Amen!

People who don't like their beliefs being laughed at shouldn't have such funny beliefsī²

reply

.... well, either that or you have serious mental issues.

reply

Because they can't articulate their dislike beyond "it was boring" or they can't admit they just didnt get a movie, and therefore have to call it stupid. And then seeing 10
more *beep* saying similar things makes them feel less stupid.

Every IMDB movie board has a pointless topic like this. People just post this crap to get attention and it is quite juvenile.

You are entitled to your opinion and i respect it.

As for me, this is one of my favorite movies and probably the best movie out there speaking of the devil and the occult. This one and The Devil's Associate, both are amazing and troubling movies.

The ninth gate is so mysterious and mystic that i cannot not like it. And frankly, i found it quite terrifying!

The best parts as for me are the ones where Corso starts comparing the books and sees discrepancies between them, it gives me the chills every time! And the engravings are so full of dark symbolism and weird representations, i love it.

Also, Balkan... this guy is FASCINATING! So charismatic and threatening at the same time. Not to mention obsessive and outright crazy. Frank Langella did an impeccable job on this one.

At last, i really enjoyed Johnny Depp's performance. Loved how much he smoked and drank, it made me wanna have a drink and a cigarette every time he did on screen.

All in all, this movie is a 9/10 as far as i'm concerned.

Mostly teens and young "adults" hang at this site and feel compelled to comment on the art which a relatively few motion pictures present to the viewing public. Having little understanding of the subject, masterpieces such as "TNG" is rated in the sixes.

Teenyboppers, Roman Polanski is one of the best directors of all time and each of his films belong in the collection of true film aficionados. Now go and watch your favorite Vin Diesel film.

Come back when you`ve seen more than 15 movies. Noob.

My point proven. Juvenile vocabulary!
