My issues with Broly

Nearly all of the movies are non-canon with the show. In fact, if most of them followed the show's timeline exactly, then some of the characters wouldn't be able to be in it and certain techniques would be unavailable. The only movie that could've POSSIBLY taken place on the show's actual timeline is the first Cooler one (assuming it took place during the android training).

Ohhhh yeah, I forgot about Instant Transmission. Yep, the Cooler movie is also noncanon. But back to my original question: What is it about Broly that gets you kids so excited? He seems extremely unremarkable to me.

Yeah, but just about every principal villain beats up all of the heroes. You don't act like one the fanboys that I'm trying to figure out, terminator (thats a good thing!). I've seen some people defend Broly like they'd defend their mom. Why? OH why? Is he a rockstar on the side or something?

Ok, you have major problems wth broly, so open your mind a little, my favorite villain is broly and i will demonstrate why. Firstly he IS the legendary super sayan. This alone is nothing, a mere name, only this signifies he will probably very strong and is a sayan, like goku and vegeta, not some mutant freak made in a lab, or an freaky alien. He is one of the kind of the good guys. Vegeta was evil (and porbably is) before, why so many like him? because he ain't the saint that gohan is. This is a good point for broly, a kind of dark sayan, only unique, special, his air isnt yellow as we are used to see, is green. Then he is not dump, his sarcastic observations are terribly awesome, like "the little green bug has come to get squashed", "you're a waste of sayan blood" and one of my favorites "the little slaves have decided to be brave(...)you're probably dreaming you could return there someday, well its just a dream!" Then is the very cruel way of his fighting still, brutish, with his arms, jumping on goku with his feets, puting gohan and vegeta head against walls. And finally we see that his power is ever growing, and can't be stopped if not for some ultra great power. You speak of transformation 2, well i see the receiving of the energy of goku by his friends like a multi-fusion, only the fusion his goku, gohan, picollo, vegeta and trunks. Enough? Still we see that the ending is the worst part the film cause he defeats broly with only one hit, realistcly, probably it would take much more. Its pity brolly dindt got part on the actual serie Z. I was fan of dbz when kid, not anymore, im 22 now, but brolly its my favorite anti-hero of the Z serie.

dumbass he was never beaten, he comes back in two other movies. the sad thing is that in the two other he is underrated because he fights goten and trunks the whole time, and not even using his full power

What makes Broly so popular?

I'm not entirely sure. Many things make up the average anime villian. Like speed, charisma, intelligeance, etc.

I will say Broly has a very nice character design. I like his outfit, and etc.
Plus the whole concept was sorta interesting with the whole "being born with a power level of 10,000" was quite intriguing. Maybe it was a verison to show, what if one of the good super saiyans we're evil? Of course, we saw vegeta like this. It's really hard to say. He may not be intelligent, but he can think.

Despite his anger issues which can consume his view, he knows how to strike, VERY well. When he blew up those slaves' home planet, that was a sadistic act, striking them mentally/emotionally. He just has that whole sadistic view, of what a villian truly is. Someone who is powerful, cuts right to the point of what they want to achieve, and does it with his own hands. Plus, if he can kill his own father, that also adds on to his resume.

dbzep273, a TRUE DBZ fan would only go by the manga and nothing more. :p

Also, the other guys gave Goku their energy AFTER they'd lost most of it fighting Broly. I'd imagine that the total combined power levels of all the characters at that point in the DBZ timeline would be stronger than SSJ2, but you're forgetting that the others didn't have enough energy to be of any use in the fight and chose to give it to Goku. It couldn't have been THAT much energy.
