DBZ Movies: Best to Worst

Hey, I haven't seen many of the DBZ movies and I'm interest to see what you guys think are the best to get a good grasp on which movies I should buy first.

My List

1. The Wrath of the Dragon
2. The Return of Cooler
3. Broly: The Legendary Super Saiyan
4. Tree of Might
5. Lord Slug
6. Cooler's Revenge
7. Dead Zone

EDIT: I've seen a lot of them now and here's my new list:

1. Wrath of the Dragon
2. Bardock - The Father of Goku
3. The Return of Cooler
4. Broly: The Legendary Super Saiyan
5. Tree of Might
6. Cooler's Revenge
7. The World's Strongest
8. Lord Slug
9. Fusion Reborn
10. Dead Zone

reply

lord slug is the worst dbz movie ever. Coolers revenge, tree of might, and broly are good though.

reply

I watched roughly half the movies... so here goes.

1. Wrath of the Dragon (13) This movie was epic, and it was great having a non saiyan lead character. Tapion kicked ass.

2. Bojack Unbound (9) Loved Bojack, and loved the tournament aspect of it.

3. Fusion Reborn (12) Funniest movie by far. And the interaction between Vegeta and Goku was great.

4. Broly the Legendary Super Saiyan (8) Long and intresting. Broly wasnt as fleshed out as I wanted him to be.

5. Deadzone/Worlds Strongest/Tree of Might (1,2,3) I havnt watched these movies in forever. Though i remember non being to great, or too crapy. They were all mediocore.

8. Lord Slug (4) Damn, this was a bad movie. Bland and boring.

I have 5 more movies to watch. I heard bad things bout Bio Broly, and im not to keen on the Super 13 movie either. Im prolly picking up the Cooler set next.

reply

Both Cooler movies were awesome and Android 13 was amazing.

1.) History of Trunks - if there were one movie I'd want any non-dragonball fan to watch, it'd be this one. It really shows just how great a show it is and how artistic it can be to anyone not looking for a bunch of violence/blood

2.) Wrath of the Dragon
3.) Broly Second Coming
4.) Cooler's Revenge
5.) Broly the Legendary Super Saiyan
6.) Bardock, father of Goku
7.) Bojack Unbound
8.) Fusion Reborn
9.) Tree of Might

10. Lord Slug - not as bad as everyone thinks in my opinion

11. The Dead Zone - the Garlic Jr Saga was better

12.) Plan to eradicate the Saiyans

13. The World's Strongest - another bland ending. Whatdya expect, it's one of the earlier movies

14.) Return of Cooler

15.) Bio Broly

I'd also like to note that just because a movie is higher up than another doesn't mean I enjoyed it more.

reply

Technically Bardock & History of Trunks were TV specials, and the Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans was a video guide for the game that was released on VHS.

That being said...

1. Fusion Reborn (12)
2. Bojack Unbound (9)
3. Wrath of the Dragon (13)

are my top 3.

Lord Slug and Bio Broly are my least favorite.

I've seen all of these:
Tree of Might
Cooler's Revenge
Return of Cooler
Lord Slug
The Dead Zone
Among those ones, I like "Tree of Might" the best. I haven't seen any of the Broly movies, but now I really want to; I've seen online pics and youtube clips, and...Broly's sexy!

Gunner of Team Captain Jack Sparrow. Savvy?

reply

bio-broly is the worst movie ever, its swamp thing with corn for hair. on the American release box goku is on the back cover but hes not in the movie.

I got all 3 Broly films. Here's what I have to say about Bio Broly: how dare they take away Broly's sexiness! Luckily the first two are great though.

I admit I haven't seen them all yet...but here are the ones I have seen that I enjoyed.

1. Bardock: The Father of Goku - (It's always interesting to get a backstory as well as a look at all the characters before the series. Also it fits within the DB/DBZ storyline the best.

2. Broly: The Legendary Super Saiyan - (Best Fighting, good story, great unstoppable villain with truly evil lines "What would you expect, FROM A TRUE FREAK!!!")

3. Tree of Might - (Solid fighting, Ocean Dub did a good job in not making it seem cheesey, and it's the most reminiscent of my childhood since I saw it as a child)

4. History of Trunks - (Once again, good to have a backstory that fits)

5. The Dead Zone (Garlic Jr. is a decent villain, great animation and some good voice acting)

6. Broly's Second Coming - (This is the first one I'd say dissappointed me. Too many plot holes such as how could Videl survive an attack from Broly, how did Broly arrive on Earth, fighting is no where as good as the previous Broly film, the story was VERY lacking, and the ending was kind of a cop out.)

7. Lord Slug - (just awful)

8. Bio-Broly - (This one kind of pisses me off. They destroyed my favorite villain and turned him into the swamp thing who doesn't even talk once. They were just banking in on his popular name. The only redeeming thing about this movie was some comic relief from Goten, Trunks, and Mr. Satan...and that's miniscule)

reply

"Best Fighting"
yeah because why have actually good choreography and martial arts when you can have broly clotheslining everyone for an hour..

"great unstoppable villain"
he died with one punch and hates kakarot for crying while saying pathetic cliche "mwahahaha" lines.

"What would you expect, FROM A TRUE FREAK!!!")"
dub line only and just plain stupid. so hes calling himself a freak? ok...

"turned him into the swamp thing"
and? thats a good thing. they were paying homage to old horror movies and made the movie a cheesy yet fun B-movie that never takes itself too seriously. plus there are plenty of awesome things about it.
1. broly is now a terrifying silent swamp demon instead of a retard who screams kakarot constantly.
2. hes weaker, meaning the battles are less one sided and more believable. im sick of people saying hes the strongest anyway.
3. no goku or gohan to randomly save the day. i was sick of how in the movies, you might as well not even show up if your name didnt start with "go". this was dedicated to the B team actually doing something besides standing around in the background not existing. and no cliche toei punch or kamehameha in sight. they win with brains and desperate luck rather than plot device hax powaaa
4. comedic and never takes itself too seriously.
5. unique in its focus on the more minor heroes.
6. villain isnt an overpowered mess but a believable threat sending a message to not *beep* with science.

"13. Bio-Broly (Worst DBZ Movie EVAH!!!)"
no movie 8 is.

"2. Broly: The Legendary Supersaiyan----Best Fighting and the Scariest of the DBZ movies"
dead zone and worlds strongest had infinitely better fighting than just broly clotheslining everyone. scariest? broly didnt even try to be scary. he hated goku cos he cried too much when they were babies. what a pathetic little pussy. plus he kills innocent weak children. gee broly, pick on someone your own size. and finally he loses in one freaking punch.

"some kind of lame joke to wrap everything up."
classic epic misunderstanding of the scene. goku was told to go settle broly down in hell with pikkon. which is important since thats something broly would do and would need to be stopped.

"bio-broly is the worst movie ever, its swamp thing with corn for hair"
they were paying homage to old B-movie sci fi horror. i bet you hated it cos broly was weaker and your precious goku didnt save the day yet again.

1. Dead Zone (Great fighting and doesn't use powergrids to show that a stronger fighter is better. A great story too.)

2. The Lengendary Super Saiyan (The last good DBZ movie. Great story and action, unlike following movies that had no story.)

3. Worlds Strongest (Good story, better fight scenes. Probably the best fights in all the movies.)

4. Yo! Goku and friends return (half decent story, AMAZING fights and animation style)

5. Coolers Revenge (Better fights, weak story.)

6. Tree of Might (half decent story, good fights and nice to see the team working together again)

7. Super Android 13(Good story, ok fights. Not an interesting villain)

8. Bojack Unbound (Bad story, good fights boring villains and the only scene is when Tien fights Trunks)

9. Coolers return (bland bland bland)

10. Lord Slug (Boring villain, boring fights, boring story. More background could have been nice.)

11. Broly - second coming (BOO!!!)

12. Bo-broly (BOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Here are the ones I think are amazing:

-Broly: the Legendary Super Saiyan: The best one ever!! A VERY evil and menacing villain. No mercy, no love, no shame on ANYTHING or ANYONE!! He killed his own father too!! Is there anymore I need to say?!?!?

-Tree of might: Pretty good movie and very convincing villains and story. Definitely don't want to screw around with Turles (would've been cool, if they had Turles as a member of Kakarot's Family; then again it would've been too much of a repeat of Raditz)

-Cooler's Revenge: Great backstory on Frieza's family. In my opinion deserved to be involved in the main story while on Planet Namek!!

-Super Android 13 (If it wasn't for Android 13's hillbilly voice, this would've been tied with number 1. Liked android 15, but android 14 was just another 1-dimensional villain like Android 19) Final Fight was EPIC!!!

Decent

Dead Zone: Good, solid way to start off the movie franchise, although nothing too special!

-Hey Son goku returns:
Nothing more than a nostalgic throwback, although it does show a good back story with Vegeta.

-Lord Slug:VASTLY underrated in my opinion, especially with Lord Slug in his final form

-Wrath of the Dragon: Not too bad, but the beginning was just too laughable to think about. They're WAY too experienced to recognize the bad guy playing the victim. Although later on, it get's pretty good, especially near the end, with Trunks thinking of having to sacrifice his friend in order to destroy the evil in the music box that he fused with for over a thousand years. minus points for lack of originality as well with Tapion and the ocarina.

-Fusion Reborn: starts slowly, but picks up BIG TIME in the middle. LOVED GOGETA, but it was too short of an appearance. Probably the funniest one of the bunch though. A lot of awkward parts, especially with Gohan acting like a Ginyu force member(you do realize they tried to kill you on Namek, right?)

-The Return of Cooler:Too much of a repetition of the original, and not as interesting either. Got predictable near the end.

-Bojack unbound: Pretty boring in my opinion, until the last 15 minutes of the movie!

Pretty Bad:

-Broly: Second coming.
Pretty disappointing, considering how evil and menacing Broly was in the first one. He was too nice in this one, especially with Goten and Trunks. last third of the movie makes up for it, especially when Goku comes back.

The World's strongest: Cool to see Master Rochi fighting, but everything else in the movie is pretty bad. I mean come on, a BRAIN in a machine that has tremendous power(now that's a good one)!

Bio-broly: I couldn't even finish watching this. The dialogue was laughable and having a normal person as a villain is just ridiculous(and let's not talk about Broly covered in *beep*

My list goes:

1. History of Trunks - An amazing dark story with the best version of Gohan and makes the androids look very threatening. 10/10.

2. Bardock, Father of Goku - Another fantastic epic, even though that Bardock is the main character he still isn't the hero and the writing is so great to do that, it doesn't shy away from how evil the Saiyans were and Bardock was no exception. 10/10.

3. The World's Strongest - An underrated gem in my opinion, an original plot, an icy surrounding which really should be uses more often in DBZ. The only nitpick is the Bio-Men' striking resemblance to the Saibamen but other than that a true masterpiece. 10/10.

4. Bojack Unbound - Another really strong plot with a really great villain. The scene in which Bojack and his men kill the tournament contestants is dark and menacing which really helps present them as a threat. 10/10.

5. Wrath of the Dragon - Again a really great original villain here, Tapion is a great character with one of the best backstories the movies and even the show has ever produced. You really get to understand everything he goes through and the brotherly bond he forms with Trunks is great. 10/10.

6. Battle of Gods - This was the last DBZ movie I got round to watching and I didn't believe the hype, but that hype was well deserved, even though it's only number 6 it does have some pretty strong competition. Beerus is a breath of fresh air for the movie and he really helps the movie to be as good as it is. 10/10.

7. Cooler's Revenge - How can I not love this one, it's simply amazing. After watching DBZ Abridged I do feel a little let down by the overly generic voice actor they picked for Cooler and I think the TFS voice actor fit the character very well, that's not a complaint just an observation. Seeing Goku down and out for most of the movie was also refreshing as it gave the other characters a little more to do. 10/10.

8. Super Android 13 - Trucker Hat jokes aside, this movie was really good. As mentioned before, icy areas should be used more in DBZ. I don't really get the whole Super Android 13 thing in fact I think it kind of ruins it but individually I like the Androids. 9/10.

9. Broly: The Legendary Super Saiyan - I will admit I think this one is a tad overrated, much likes it titular villain but it's by no means bad. Vegeta being terrified of Broly just says it all but really I felt Goku didn't take him as seriously as he should've, I know it's kinda his character but I just think he shouldn't have been as goofy as he was. 8/10.

10. Lord Slug - Another really good showing with a cool villain who doesn't actually want to wish for immortality for once haha. The False Super Saiyan was a nice foreshadowing as well. 8/10.

11. Dead Zone - As far as movies go, this one isn't too bad. It's shorter than most of the others so it's not too much of a time waster. You get a villain who actually has a purpose and a reason for doing what he is doing and he has some pretty cool henchmen. 7/10.

12. Fusion Reborn - Not bad by any means but I think it's not one of the best, not sure why though. 6/10.

13. Return of Cooler - This one is just a big let down in my opinion. A lot of nice nods to great Sci-Fi movies but overall a really boring movie but as always the battles are really good, although the conclusion was complete crap. 2/10.

14. Tree of Might - This one is just plain bland and boring, nothing more to say. 0/10.

15. Bio-Broly - The only reason this goes above Second Coming is purely because of 18 & Hercule's interaction, plus how many sins there are against Second Coming. 0/10.

16. Broly: Second Coming - Okay so Broly survived because of (no) reasons, also he somehow doesn't manage to kill Videl, Trunks & Goten before Gohan shows up which just completely ruins his damn character, He is supposed to be a killing machine for god's sake. 0/10.

17. Resurrection 'F' - As bad as Second Coming is it doesn't get anywhere near as bad as this colossal piece of *beep* First of all I hate the voice actor for Frieza, I always have and I always will. There are only 2 people on the face of this Earth who can voice Frieza and they are Linda Young & Little Kuriboh (I can't speak for the Japanese voice, my apologies). Also how does Goku survive a laser beam through the heart, I don't understand. Vegeta was killed by essentially the same thing. Plus Vegeta is about to kill Frieza but stops because of (no) reasons and then Frieza does the same with Goku. Vegeta should've just killed Frieza right of the bat, it would have given the character a satisfying conclusion to his hatred for Frieza but no it's gotta be all Goku. Also Sorbet, really Sorbet, ok sure whatever. But the worst sin comes when the reverse time. NEVER EVER is this a good or interesting plot line, it's cheap and lazy. I called it when Whis mentioned that he can do temporal do overs and I dreaded it. Overall this is the worst of the DBZ movies in my opinion and I would go as far to say I enjoyed Dragon Ball: Evolution more than this. -whatever the highest number is/10.
