Yes We Can

One of the most poignant scenes for me was the meeting that included a group of multi-raced members of the town gathered at Just Chicken to listen the proposal by Will (Wesley Snipes) and Loretta Sinclair (Alfre Woodard) to expand the restaurant's business. The group's reponse of "Yes We Can" reminds me of how such slogans strengthen us to collectively gather enough courage and faith to prevail over America's painful past. I am still amazed that many of us recently rose above the pain and hateful propaganda of racism, bigotry, greed, and fear to elect our first African-American President of the United States of America. We've come from: "We Shall Overcome", Black Power", "Black is Beautiful", "No More War", "Stop Apartied", "Equal Rights For All", to: "Yes We Can" ... Wow!!!

Don't sweat the small stuff

I have to disagree with you to a certain extent. We've gone from slogans that have a meaning and served a purpose, to people who will believe anything that rhymes, like "If it fits, you must acquit." That just tells me that people would rather think of things in over-simplified terms than in circumspect ones.

"Careful, man! There's a beverage, here."
