Car Chase Collateral Damage

OK... reminiscent of "French Connection" but a lot more claustrophobic due to where they were (Chinatown instead of mostly on open streets). Great action, probably 1000 rounds fired, etc. Now, I've seen on other threads how they thought this was a realistic movie, but let's get real here. At least, what, a dozen innocent bystanders get blown away? Chow and Mikey are back on the street the next day? Where's Bernie Hamilton to chew out Starsky and Hutch? Should I just say "Forget it... it's Chinatown"?
