WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE????

Why, oh, why am i the first person to write a post on this, the greatest series of all time? For most anime watchers, at least in my age range, early twenties, this is where it all started. Back before i knew there was a thing called anime i was engrossed by this masterpiece. the first interracial couple on american cartoons, actual death all the time, i mean main characters were always dying, which was new and different. it you don't know what i mean, the show was also known as Robotech, and the first half with rick hunter and the crew is considered the macross saga, but in japan it was known as macross. i would advsd to all to watch it, although it is dated and some may not openly receive it as fast as say cowboy bebop, but it is still worth seeing. as well as all the spin off, well except macross 7, but i am a completist when it comes to macross so i have that too.

To reiterate something Ive already said this series was great, although
there hasnt been any board activity about it, doesnt mean it
hasnt been noticed. Although when I reviewed the series and movie
DYRL on Epinions no one heard of it, let alone appreciated its value.

I got all the games as well based on Macross. Very cool.

reply

hey i tried to post here before but the message board was never up.

i really want some of the games.....damn harmony gold for its stupid license crap.
they only give us *beep* robotech games.

reply

hey i went and got macross plus and read about it on wikipedia and ended up finding out it was robotech so i was suprised

reply

lol. Robotech was "in" back when people here in the states called it "japanimation". Anyone remember that?

Ahhh....

I grew up watching Robotech. I remember a strong strong attraction then. I was a huge fan of Admiral Gloval and Roy Fokker

Then I saw "Do You Remember Love?" and fell instantly in love. Sooooo much better than Robotech.

How can you describe the exquisite beauty that is Macross? The opening background music score at the start of "Do You Remember Love?", as the dimensional forress is emerging from the darkness of space will remain forver etched in my heart.

It set the stage for the cosmic story of love, sorrow and triumph.

People laugh and mock me when I express my admiration for Macross in gushing admiration - sadly, they know not what they miss.

reply

yeah I know what you mean, I have that same kind of love for Gundam Wing

reply

I've got to agree with you on this.

I recently Rediscovered Macross after I found out that Robotech: The Shadow Chronicals was out and I remembered that the original RT series was originally created from 3 different Japanese Animation and I always loved the Macross Saga.

I actually managed to find a copy of "Do You Remember Love" and the music for it just gives me the chills especially when Minmay sings the song "Do YOu Remember Love" in the final Battle of that movie

reply

yeah like the entire macross saga is on youtube

reply

There's a separate entry for Robotech on IMDB.

Macross is landmark, one of the first animated space operas that came out and one of the first to show death on a global basis.

However, the show production (Macross) is dated now (I own the Protoculture edition of the complete show) and the 6 shows after the war were boring and too focused on Stupid Rick Hunter's girl issues.

That love triangle drove me up the wall. It was dumb to start with (Lisa Hayes as the wimpy and pathetic, idiotic teenager acting 24 year old and Lynn Minmei the childish, awful singing, man-using brat and Rick Hunter, the doofus who can't see 2 feet in front of him nor make a decision butthead) and took too much of the plot. I mean, it made Hayden Christiansson's Anakin Skywalker's teen angst problems look positively stoic in comparison.

reply

Macross isn't one of the first animated space operas, Gundam, Space Battleship Yamato, Galaxy Express 999, Astro Boy and Captain Harlock came before it. Secondly the main characters names aren't Rick Hunter and Lisa Hayes but Hikaru Ichijo and Misa Hayase and Lynn Minmay's songs in the original un-edited version of Macross music is very different from the "Robotech" version.

I meant in North America. Other than Astro Boy (and astroboy was more episodic than soap operaish), the ones you mention are virtually unknown (even though I thought Star Blazers (Space Battleship Yamato as it is known outside the US) was good) to anyone except for most geeks.

Ask most men in Canada and the US if they heard of Robotech and many would say yes.

it still holds a soft place in my heart. I haven't forgotten it at all.

(and I was one of the first to pre-order the complete dvd set from animeigo before it was heavily discounted later). ^_^

The only thing I haven't picked up is the complete dvd series of Southern Cross.

I was the same too when I first saw this on TV; when I watched again recently, the show never lost it's appeal

IMO, if I could, I would trade BSG and two of the many entries for this, Patlabor and Z Gundam on the Top 250 list for TV series

I watch movies that feature only three cats
