Rosie's piano playing?

Something I never understood is what the deal is with the scenes where Rosie is playing the piano and we can't hear anything? Is it an audio issue and maybe the director didn't add in the sound effect to the final mix, or is it supposed to be alien-related and we can't hear her playing on film for some reason, even though everyone else can hear it.... or is it simply in everyone's head and she's not playing at all? i guess we'll never know

reply

Yeah! I was wondering what was going on then, because I couldn't hear any noise from it either. Weird! And there's various possibilities which could explain it, but you're right, it looks like we'll never know! It's interesting though, especially if it's to do with the aliens, messing with the other people's heads or because of the presence of the aliens, it doesn't get recorded on the tape, which wouldn't surprise me because it always goes off to the black and white lines, then comes back on straight away, and the sound sometimes sounds like monsters, and the screen goes blury, and that kind of explanation wouldn't surprise me anyway, this kind of strange stuff should be expected anyway when something like aliens come about!

Well i'm almost positive its alien-related.. because i just now remember in the beginning of the movie when rosie and the mom are playing, we can hear it. but later we can't. the aliens have something to do with it.

and yes, whenever the aliens are around, the screen gets blurry and the voice audio gets disrupted. almost as if the recorder can't handle their presence.

reply

well at the start theyre just playing sum basic easy tune thats like do re mi and all that crap but later she's supposed to be playing like concert class music to the house but my guess is they couldnt really sync it in or find something that wouldnt sound too obviously dubbed over so they just left it and hoped no one would notice.
Either that or they just plain forgot
The 'alien influencing the family to hear it' excuse sounds like a pretty crappy plot device to cover up an obvious technical error

We don't actually see her playing, we see her at the piano but she does'nt look like she is moving much tbh.
It could be the Aliens putting the music into there heads so thats why we cant see it. Bit like the loud humming sound after the first Alien walks past the window, the mum claiming to see the dead dad and Matthew thinking Linda was Mel and Linda thinking Matthew was Kurt.

Somehow I don't think a fictional piece of entertainment is suppose to make you believe in the existence of the paranormal...

If you look at the goofs, they supposedly "forgot" to add the music. I find it extremely hard to believe that they'd overlook something like that, so I'm more willing to think that it was deliberate. I think it's related to the aliens. The weird thing is that the people could hear it but not the camera.

I don't know how they could 'forget' to add the music in post production. It sounds like an extremely poor and obvious oversight if this is true.

Also the same thing happened at the end where they were at the dinner table playing cards, and the boy was yelling at her to stop playing the piano... yet we hear nothing there either.

The girls hands were barely moving. If the director had intended to add music then the director would have told her to pretend to play at least.

I would think the missing music is deliberate, and the aliens were messing with their minds.

1st time when they say the girl is playing really well i thought it was my video file missing the audio but when theyre playing cards and we cant hear her i decided....its aliens

reply

in A low budget movie like this. i say its post ptoduction. Because if the girl was terrible we would here her just mashing keys. Now if her playing is extremely good then we'd need music edited in post production

i agree with joeyjmpoff....

i'd say it's an audio issue. Rosie was clearly at the piano... and even if the others hear her playing beautifully, we should be hearing her playing something. badly or otherwise. Even if it was alien-related why are we hearing 'nothing' doesn't make sense, Rosie was clearly at the piano. I don't think she would have sat at the piano just to stare at it
