This wasn't the first "found footage" film either. Among others, the infamous Cannibal Holocaust is a found footage movie that came out well before this, BWP, etc.
shareAlso, the original EVIL DEAD used a hand-held camera to make those now-classic scenes where the ghost or demon or whatever it is chases the woman through the forest, and goes through the house busting down doors---when I first saw it on video, I wondered how they did that. Funny how ED never gets credit for doing that either.
shareCannibal Holocaust is definitely worth mentioning, but Disardor beat me to it. Man Bites Dog is another that I think deserves more credit. The Last Broadcast is worth mentioning too, as is U.F.O. Abduction from 1989 which was ironically later remade as Alien Abduction: Incident in Lake County.
