two series...i'm confused

It says there were two series of erie indiana. Can someone tell me how they were different? Different cast I'm sure but was it like a spinoff or did they just pick up where they left off with another kid. By the way, I remember watching one of these and I think it had to be the latest one. The things I remembe don't fit with 1992 and i don't think they aired reruns. I actually liked the show but remember it was short-lived. Also if anyone has clips of either, that would be great.

Two series with different cast and characters (although the characters were named similarly), and taking place in different universes. Somehow all the weird stuff that was in Eerie, Indiana from the first series (and hence the first universe), started seeping out into another Eerie, Indiana in another universe. I think that's the best I can describe them.

The first series was cancelled, but became popular enough in reruns that they decided to do a quasi-revival a few years later.

Didn't the kid from the first series end up appearing in the second one in some sort of a cross over?

I think the two kids from the first one had cameos in the second show, talking to the two new kids through the tv(don't ask me how, it's been a long time).

Footage of Marshall and Simon from the original show was used in the first episode to set up the premise with dialogue, I believe, from soundalikes.

By the time the new show was produced, the original two kids were already grown up so they had to come up with a way to continue the story while still tying in with the original show, to they used old footage with new voiceovers to have Marshall and Simon hand over the reigns to the new guys.
