Questions about the film...

This film was recommended to me by someone on the, "Irreversible" board, saying it was very disturbing. Boy....were they right. I found it more offensive than Irreversible for some reason.

1. Was the father molesting the baby also? Is that why the baby was bleeding?

2. Was Jessie working as a prostitute? And what was her relationship with the older woman in London?

3. Did anyone find it weird that Tom thought it wrong that the father was sleeping with Jessie? Considering the fact that he too was sleeping with her!

4. Were both Tom and Jessie products of the same mother and father? I got the impression at some point that Tom didn't share the same father, but that doesn't really make sense, seeing how he was the second born...

5. And finally, was it just me or did this DVD really need a subtitles feature? I am a native english speaker and have seen quite a of British and Irish films and never before have needed subtitles so badly. So tell me I ain't alone.

Thanks in advance for any help clarifying this film. Peace.

I think that's a given. The mother may have been blanking out any suspicions about the older child, but she only needed a wake-up call off the son to make her involve the Police etc

2. Was Jessie working as a prostitute? And what was her relationship with the older woman in London?

Was the older woman not in the majority of the Polaroids that Tom found in his sister's room? If so, then it looks like a gay relationship.

3. Did anyone find it weird that Tom thought it wrong that the father was sleeping with Jessie? Considering the fact that he too was sleeping with her!

Tom wasn't sleeping with her. She was just very open about being naked around him, the bed stuff was Tom being angry and wrestling about with her.

I thought he was the biological father of both, except at one point Winstone said '2 years I've had him' whether he meant that he has had teen troubles off him for 2 years, I'm not sure. I still think he's the father of both.

Thanks for your answers and help with clarification. Not to be argumentative, but I remember Jessie saying to her brother, when he first approached her about messin' around with their father, "Well, have I told you to F#$@ off yet?" Implying, he was doing it, so why does it matter if their father did. The line of dialog was quickly thrown in. Maybe I misunderstood? Wouldn't be the first time.

And in regards to them having the same father, it was that line about, "Two years I've had him," that threw me off. I still don't get what Winstone's character meant by that.

But thanks again, for the clarity.

Let me see if I have this straight....In the book, they did have sex, right? I could've sworn she said that quote about not telling him to get lost. But I really wish this movie had a subtitle feature on the DVD. It really would have cleared up most of my questions. Thanks again for your help!
