What does he whisper to the baby?

I had a hard time understanding some of the words, but when the father was holding the baby right before the mother changed her it sounded like he said something along the lines of "I can't wait."

I assumed he had abused the baby at the end, and this would justify that. I was just wondering if I'd heard him wrong.

The version I saw wasn't subtitled!!! That would have helped so much. I totally missed that line. And just when I thought Winstone's character couldn't get any more creepy.

"Master your high or die under the staff!"

He's actually eavesdropping on the convo the mother is having on the phone. When he says "I can't wait", he's sarcastically responding to hearing his wife confirming her mother's arrival in the coming weeks.

This scene is great just because it shows what a good liar he is. When she takes the baby to get changed he expresses his approval of his mother-in-law coming over, when we've just seen him express the opposite as he whispered to the baby.
