best movie i've ever seen

Anyone else agree?

On one hand it makes me sick, but in a twisted, perverted way, it's a really beautiful movie.

I know what you mean! Brilliant! I wish people had the guts to make more films that face things like this, or any subject without the usual inhibitions that don't allow films like this to get made.

Also recommend Mysterious skin, also Once were warriors

I agree. This film is amazing.

reply

Yes. I agree with you 100%.

Shocking and appalling subject matter, but magnificently well filmed, written and acted.

Just seen this. A superb movie. I didn't exactly enjoy it,but it wasn't made to be enjoyable. I liked the way you are left to your own conclusions about some things-this film treats us like adults. The only thing I'm not too sure about was when you was Ray Winstone having sex with his daughter for what seemed like atleast a minute.I really didn't want to see that! Still,I respect Tim Roth for having the guts to show it in that way.

reply

Having read the book I reckon Tim Roth took the easy way out. In the book, Jessie is the one who appears to be initiating the sex with her dad, almost as two fingers up to the world. Teenage rebellion; let's see what happens when we tear down the world. But in the film, Roth opts for the safer plot of the father being the sole agent.

reply

~Tim Roth says that he wanted to show the daughter as a victim, because even if she appeared rebellious to be initiating the sex, the father was the real predator.

reply

Thats a good adaptation decision-judgment call, with the daughter initiating sex on screen its in danger of ligitimizing the crime in the mind and eyes of Parents who commit this kind of act.

One word about this movie: Disturbing.

reply

I would definitely hate to think that something like this wasn't disturbing.

Being disturbed by The War Zone or films like it (Mysterious Skin) is a better reaction than like in another kind of film experience, where people who watch mainstream horror films are either numb(probably from watching too much rotten internet snuff footage) to what is depicted or feign and unaffected response.

Great movie er ...film. The landscape and scenery were as alienating as the terrible secret.

I saw this movie a few years ago. I think it is very powerful due to incest issue, in additon to the acting, direction, and overall setting of the story. This is no doubt a film that can be considered very controversial, and cause a plethora of reactions.

reply

From the direction through to the soundtrack, this film is one of the best I've seen in the last 10 years, the performances the actors/actresses pulled out for this film are literally the best I've seen in a British film, being British myself I really, really feel proud to have a film as good as this with an English stamp on it, the subject matter to me is a small hill of beans compared to how the film was played out...

Not to say that the subject wasn't important, I just focused more on their performances and was just mesmerized by them...

reply

Not as good as Citizen Kane.

reply

I'd hate to meet you if this is your favourite movie. I would say it was worth watching and a well made film, but favourite generally means you could watch it again and again because it makes you happy.
