Question about the father's reaction to the son

He immediately gets defensive and calls the son crazy and asks him how he can even accuse his own father of something so horrible. Yet he knows he's guilty, the son knows he's guilty, and they all know that he knows he's guilty. Yet he continues to act horrified at his OWN ACTIONS. How do you interpret this? I think he knew it was a really wrong thing to do, but he let his temptations take over and he did it anyway. And he had to find a way to live with himself for doing such an evil thing so he just forgets it and moves on. Which explains his totally normal behaviour outside of his despicable acts. I think evil people don't think that they're evil. They find a way to justify their actions. And when they get caught, they find it too hard to swallow and don't know how to deal with their guilt.

Abusers are really good a appearing normal. They are invenerate liars. They are manipulators. They are vile. Of course he acted innocent. They are also anti-social and don't give a fig about anyone else or their feelings. They are narcissistic and its always all about them and what they want. They are good at what they do - appearing normal while doing the vilest anti-social things.
