More on the Enigma Code

As many contributors have pointed out, the U.S. had nothing to do with breaking the Enigma code (we did break the Japanese code, though). But the British did not do it alone. What many people do not know is that Polish code breakers first cracked the Enigma code in 1932, acting on information from French military intelligence. Two months before the Germans invaded Poland in 1939, the Poles gave both the English and the French all the information they had developed on the Enigma Code. It was the Polish breakthroughs that allowed the British at Bletchley Park to keep up with German changes to the code and eavesdrop on their communications throughout the war.
