Who was the bigger scumbag - Walter White or Tony Soprano?

That's easy, Tony. He cheated a whole lot and killed way more people (directly or indirectly) and did it without a conscience. Walter never cheated although his wife cheated on him (and gave some of his hard hustling, drug making money to her damn boyfriend) and when he killed people it was out of necessity.

Tony Soprano, because he gave a fraction of concern for the happiness of people that cared about him vs. that of his own dealings. Take his wife, for example: When it came to his wife, his approach to her happiness was met with f**kboy logic, but on a darker scale considering he was in the mob. He figured he gave her a wealthy lifestyle, a family, a name in the community, etc; and that was him doing his part. Everything outside of that was his deal and she would just have to live with it. Breadwinner or not, that's a cold approach to your spouse. Lets also think about the way he treated his son compared to how Walt treated Flynn. Even with Walt's periodic slip-ups, there's still a big difference in empathy and support.

Probably Tony.

Walter had a tragic ego flaw, that erupted like a geyser. However, all the heinous shit he did, the entirety of Breaking Bad only lasted the final what, 2 years or so of his life. By all accounts up until that point, Walter was a pretty decent guy for most of his life.

Tony on the other hand, though he does have some good qualities even if they don't outweigh the bad, was getting up to scumbaggery for pretty much his entire life.

Tony Soprano, by a country mile. Walter was many things and went too far but I never considered him a scumbag.
