Confused about the last episode

Hi, I'm sorry for being new to the discussion, but I absolutely love the show. I literally went through the seasons back-to-back-to-back etc. in something like two and a half weeks. But in the last episode, at the end Tony looks up and the screen just pops to black. Did I miss something? Is there a special feature on the DVD that explains it?

BTW though I do love the show, but does anyone else agree that it kind of rips off "Goodfellas"? It seems to have a lot of parallel scenes from that classic movie.

When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading!

reply

You didn't miss anything, that's how it ends, it just ends.

And, no, Tony wasn't killed.

Have a great day!

reply

Okay, but why did it just end? Was this a Netflix thing? (I've actually a bunch of problems with Netflix on previous disks, so I understand). TBH, though, the articles that I've read online say that Tony may have killed and that David Chase may have confirmed it in a recent interview. I don't know what to think...

No, Chase never confirmed it. In fact, the only definitive answer he ever gave to the question "is Tony dead?" is "No. No he isn't."

A lot of people want to believe he died, but they offer no proof, evidence, or clues to support their argument at all.

And that's how the show aired, it cut to black and that was it.

so did he never confirm it, or was there some definitive answer provided, you dumb dumb

To OP, there are many scenes in which the ending is paralleled and foreshadowed, two specific scenes are from earlier in the season, first where Gerry Torciano gets whacked with Sil present, we the viewer see Sil, not react till after the shots have been fired, very similar to what may have happened to tony, also Bobby and Tony had a morbid discussion about not hearing it (the gunshot) until it actually happens

A piece of advice to OP, dont take what any one particular user says as fact, use it, and create your own organic opinion.

A lot of people want to believe he died, but they offer no proof, evidence, or clues to support their argument at all.

do you think thats what this is? Nobody cares if he died or lived, since its fiction and doesnt affect our day to day lives, we think he died bc it makes the most sense within the context of the show. WHy you cant see that, is your own fault.

Terrible....take a lap

There have been some decent theories that he died. I never believed he died for one reason: he was in an incredibly public and crowded location. Yes, so was Gerry Torciano and Teddy Spirodakis but there were difference. Spirodakis was in some dubs geese spoon where only a couple other customers were patronizing. Torciano's killer was well disguised and had a quick exit (I've dined in Bamonte's several times).

reply

While sure, Holstens had some people eating its not as if it wasnt any more or less crowded then some of the places we've seen these guys take others out throughout the course of the show. Earlier in the episode Philly was taken out in broad daylight in front of his daughter and grand kids

With the Torciano murder we didnt see the entire restaurant to make that call that it was significantly less crowded than Holstens

way to open pandoras box. Honestly, you could have just looked into the threads here....

Tony is neither dead or alive in the last seconds. We see the black screen to let the show finish with no conclusion in this way. He could be both. All we know is that he is alive the last time we see him, but the black screen could mean that he died, cause most of the shots were from his point of view, and just when he is supposed to see Meadow there is a cut to black.

But with this question you brought the "experts" out again. These brilliant debaters that can hardly form a sentence without insulting others.

It is up to you if he lived of died. For me he died, because that was purest satisfaction seeing this despicable slimy fat sack of garbage getting his payback. He deserved to die, and with that the viewer could be happy if he decides to.

...but they hung him anyway.
Hanged, Ami. Your father was not a tapestry.
