I can be slapped but not have a mark. does that mean I am getting harmed? however, the orthodox jewish law states that the wife is essentially property of her husband. even if someone else hurts your wife, this someone else pays YOU, not your wife. the husband also essentially owns the child growing inside his wife. so the saying that Jewish men make the best husbands has been proven ignorant for a very long time. the men have actually been brought up by their religion and fathers/rabbis that they have the RIGHT to discipline their wives the way they see fit and the US laws do not apply to them.
and like Christianity, there are many 'levels' of Judaism. orthodox jews are the hacidic jews: all in black. MODERN orthodox jews: just the yarmulke. Conservative jew: yarmulke and tzitzit [scarf hanging down underneath their shirts with some fringes]. Reform: only wear the yarmulke an the tzitsit in temple/synogague.
and even today I have seen the religion being used only by convenience.

my father did the same crap regarding religion... not killing but stealing this and that [nothing big] even saying things like 'i'll pay for this later!...' as he's running out of home depot.

I get on line like a good girl. he comes back out and grabs my arm to yank me in [I am not a little girl at this time I was like 20] and then when I say quietly how it is wrong and I am going to wait and pay he loudly yells at me for [get this] EMBARASSING HIM!!! I stayed put. [sadly, most people in the line did nothing as to support me/glare at him. in fact, some asstwats rolled their eyes at the spectacle we were 'creating'.
