Interesting choice of director...

So, out of all the directors in Hollywood Disney chose David Kellogg who's only other movie credit was the Vanilla Ice bomb Cool As Ice and a number of Playboy documentaries to make a blockbuster and a potential franchise starter.

...Doh!

He probably knew someone at Disney.

i agree. its also baffling why this guy was chosen to direct a family feature film, yet he had no experience in making A-list movies but instead playboy soft core porn?!

also i've heard that the original cut of this movie was around a hour and 44 minutes. anybody know more about this? im curious to see what got cut out, maybe it would have been a better movie

During the 90s, Kellogg was mostly known for directing commercials (the Superman & Seinfeld American Express ads, the Rold Gold ads with Jason Alexander, etc.) as well as music videos (Michael Jackson's "Jam" for example). I even read an old Variety article from '98 where it mentions that Disney hired him because they liked his commercial work.

As for cut scenes, I do recall some from the trailers:

- A brief scene of Gadget rapidly chopping celery while cooking with Penny.

- During the shopping cart ride on the bridge, RoboGadget suggests a cocktail for Gadget to chill out and have fun.

- More of the surgery (after they slap Gadget awake, there's some dialogue)

- Not really a cut scene, but when Gadget reaches for "the balls", the guru's eyes do not pop out.

- A bit in a parking lot where Gadget accidentally blows up a car with a rocket.

- The gala party scene where Gadget is introduced on stage for the crowd. His hat burst into sparks, but then fireworks shoot out, amazing the crowd.

- A bit where RoboGadget appears and smacks the news camera during a news report.

That's all I remember.
The film is way too short. I remember seeing it in the theater when I was at Summer camp. When it was over, some kids said, "That's It!?"

I wish those cut scenes would be released, perhaps on Blu-Ray.
