Everyone absolutely loves this or completely despises it.

It's interesting.

You'll note that in the IMDb voting, females aged 45+ enjoyed this movie the most, whilst males aged 18-29 completely disliked it.
If you're cynical and detached, and looking at the cheesy humor and moments that try to be powerful but come off as hopelessly sentimental without actual merit, than you'll hate this.
If you're the kind of person who can love a movie meant for the family, meaning a lot of the humor is designed to make the kids laugh, and relates to the characters, as well as appreciating the "warmth and love" of Christmas films like this, you'll love it.

Not many people in between on this one.

I always thought it was a great movie. Heartwarming, cute, great family movie. I first saw this on New Year's Eve 2000 (Last day of 1999), when I was 7 years old!

I have to wonder how many people who liked this movie lost a parent when they were a kid.

I did. My dad died when I was twelve, and movies like this are hollow cheats. Almost 40 years later, I still have nightmares where my dad has come back from the dead, but he's not quite himself, and he won't be around for long. Those are NIGHTMARES--not scary ones, but sad, disturbing ones--and so is the premise of this movie.

So what does Movie-Kid do? Pal around and have a snowball fight with his dead Snow-Dad. There's nothing cute or magical about it. This is a kid's dead father, returned in a very temporary and disturbing form. It's horrible.

Seriously, did anyone who liked this abomination ever lose anyone they loved when they were a kid? Or do they just... kinda imagine what that must be like? You don't get over the loss of a parent at that age, ever. It's shattering, like losing a part of yourself, being disfigured. This piece of garbage trivializes that.

The snow-ghoul was just wrong, and the kid's reaction to it...? If anything like that ever happened (as if!) a real kid would probably be spending the rest of his life in a padded cell, drooling and being fed through a chute in the door.

Why did you watch it then?

I absolutely loved this movie. But, might be bias since I'm an adoptee and my bio dad coming back to me in the form of a snow man - "snow dad is better than no dad." There's just so many questions I have for my bio dad and things left to learn even at 25 that this movie is still my favorite Christmas movie.

I love this movie and I'm in the Male 18-29 age bracket.

I come under the IMDb 'Under 18' age bracket because I first saw this in 2004 when I was 14. My age group have rated this a 5.2 but I have rated it an 8 because I think it's a good movie to watch at Christmas but the only downside is that it has not aged well.

I'm turning 28 on December 16 and this is one of my favourite films. Plus, I watch it once per year around Christmas. It's a big film for me because on a personal level, I didn't have a dad growing up.
