Take the movie for what it is...not sure why there's all the hate

Okay, so I have to confess I loved this movie as a kid. As I so often do, I'll randomly remember movies I loved way back when and look them up. I scrolled through the message boards here and was shocked to find how much hate this was getting...and a Nostalgia Critic episode? Was it really that bad? So I bought it on Amazon and I watched it last night and...

It's no great American classic, I'll give you all that. It's kind of cheesy, there's a few too many balls jokes for my taste and there are some cringe-worthy music moments. But all together...I'm not sure why people seem to loathe this movie so much.

Sure it's not Keaton's best (though no one was attesting it was). Sure the animation of the snowman wasn't the greatest, but it was 1998. I think you just have to take it as what it is-a family movie that's fun for kids. I loved everything about it as a kid, and cheesiness wasn't part of it for me. The scene at the end where Jack is saying goodbye to Charlie and his wife...call me crazy but I actually thought it was pretty sad and pretty well handled, for a kid's movie.

So do I think it's the best movie or Christmas film of all time? Nah. Did it hold up well? I've seen worse from my childhood...I've seen worse.

Just my two cents.
