FE2

I saw on Dark Horizons that at this years Comic Con in San Diego that there will be mention of Free Enterprise 2. In the news section it mentions Robert Meyer will be on a panel and has FE2 next to his name. I am not sure if they have any information on this or that Dark Horizons just placed it on there as that was on his bio for upcoming projects. Anybody have info or will be attending this years Comic Con?

Honestly, I pretty much lost faith in ever seeing the long discussed FE2. As impossible as it sounds, we may very well see Tarantino's long-promised but still-not-made "Inglorious Bastards" way before this.

I wonder if Fanboys effected the greenlight on FE2 originally? At the time it looked liked both would come out around the same time.

reply

They want to make it!

The key question is certainly financing, which is difficult under normal circumstances and especially difficult today. I loved Free Enterprise, but unfortunately it wasn't the sort of lucrative project that inspires another round of investment.

The new Star Trek film comes out in May. It's even got a visit from Nimoy. If it's a hit, it may inspire more of the franchise.

Maybe Mr. Burnett et al should sell off pieces of the action, a la "The Producers".

He ended up not going to Wondercon last minute, Daren Dochterman said some kind of emergency cropped up at the Once and Future Trek panel, but there's a big interview with Burnett up at allthingsfangirl.com where he talks about the potential secret. AND, el oh el, Eric McCormack said he'd do the movie at the Alien Trespass panel, also at Wondercon.

Quick, someone call Rafer.

News from ComiCon:

"Robert Meyer Burnett showed footage from a film he produced called The Hills Run Red, on DVD Sept. 29, and said he has written a sequel to Free Enterprise called The Wrath of Shatner and is trying to put together a distribution deal so he can make the film."

Woot!

With a title like The Wrath of Shatner, I'm already in line at the theater waiting to see this...LOL

Here's hoping RMB makes the deal.

Until then, I'll just keep watching FE on Pan and Scan ;)

Unless $ and the suits don't think about the disaster Fanboys was, I still think it's a pipe-dream. But I'd love to be wrong. It doesn't hurt now that Eric McCormack's show "Trust Me" and "Boston Legal" both got 86'ed (unfortunately).

I suppose with the new Star Trek movie's success it may have some legs now, more than a year ago. Whether they could get Nimoy is another story, even with his involvement on ST and Fringe.

The script/premise for the original "My Big Geek Wedding" that involved Nimoy sounded gold.

Fanboy's problems had nothing to do with the subject matter, which is all that is similar between the two, and more to do with studio interference with the director's wishes. Oh, and the fact that the director is a whiny hack.

Actually there was ANOTHER movie competing at the time with a very similar idea about a "Star Wars", yes I know its not Star Trek.. I can't quite remember the director.. Some part of my head WANTS to say Joe Johnson was doing his own film.. but it was a period 70s piece based around the ORIGINAAL's release, although I don't think specifically about Star Wars.. where Fanboys was around the rabit hype of Episode I.

I've thought of picking up Fanboys now .. on the cheap.. I did like Chris Maquette's performance.. and he looked goofy.. but Seth Rogen's cameo made me laugh too.. and c;mon. Kristen Bell? who'd NOT want to see that?

While FANBOYS was okay, my main issue is that they denigrated trekkies and as they themselves stated "What if the movie sucks?"

Suck it does star wars ep 1

From the leaks, it looks like FE2 starts filming next week, and Mr Shatner is back on board.

Rob is being very tight-lipped about the sequel

I really hope they DO film things. I'd love to see a new movie

In the "Wikipedia pimps 'Free Enterprise'" thread, Rob's post dated Mar. 27, 2010:

I know EXACTLY where we'd go with a sequel.

Its official title is FREE ENTERPRISE - THE WRATH OF SHATNER.

So it is written. So it is done.

Look for an announcement SOON.

Apparently Alicia Witt just signed on to be in Free Enterprise II

I heard an interview on NPR with Isaiah Mustafa Mustafa (the guy in the recent Old Spice commercials) and he said he will be in Free Enterprise II, a "William Shatner film" as he called it.

reply

yup that's the plan so far. Only Burnett knows for sure...
