So bad it made...

I just read most of the messages on the "So bad it made me swallow my tongue" message thread, and I thought the discussion went a bit off rail, so let's start a new one.

Central Do Brasil is a great movie. Why is that?
Central Do Brasil is not that good. Why is that?

Just give examples, specific ones, instead of big general stuff like "cinematography" or "plot holes" and we can then discuss it better.

I love Central Station, especially those big airy shots eg at the top of that mountain, Josue running towards what he thinks is his dad's house etc...
I love the colours as well. I love the music also, the soundtrack is very good. Jacques Morelenbaum is a fan of strings, yes, but what I really enjoy is the recurring melodies that come and go.
I love the ending too, but I also find it melodramatic. What makes me cry is that I cant work out why she leaves. It breaks my heart that she feels she doesnt deserve to stay with them, that she feels she would be some sort of weight on them. But maybe she is gone too, looking for her father, where she is from, and she will be back?
