Significance of movie's title, please
I must admit that I am lost as to the meaning of the title, "Christmas in August".
Nonetheless, what a *great* little movie, with wonderful (sensitive) performances by the two main actors. 10/10

The title refers (I think) to an old sick joke:
"Mommy, mommy, why are we having a Christmas tree in August?"
"I've told you a hundred times, Billy. You have leukemia."
Indeed, I bought this movie with no idea of the plot as I'd just seen "Shiri" and needed more Han Suk Kyu. What an actor. When I saw the title "Christmas in August" that old joke came to mind. SPOILER: I immediately knew the film was about a guy who was dying. And I was right.
Also it is mentioned that Jung-won's birthday is in August. I have a feeling that might have something to do with the title as well but I'm not 100% sure yet. Anyone else notice/know anything about that?
shareThe girl says that he's probably a Leo, born in August, and that he is probably thirty-something, maybe 33 years old? So, since Christmas celebrates the birth of Jesus, maybe "Christmas in August" means that Jung-won is somehow similar to Jesus (but born in August, instead of December, and died young). Just a silly idea :-) I think that the girl being a gift to Jung-won is more plausible.
