the ending

i remember the ending was a loop back to the first ep buthim norman and virgil were aware that they had been given another chance . but that is a sucky ending i wanted to seeh im finally defeat skullmaster.. and on another note the saddest mighty max ep i saw was then they went and got these 4 heroes from the corners of the world and toke them to where skullmaster lived but they didnt make it back it was sad

DUDE!!
And there was the one legendary warrior who was a talking chimp, and he was really sarcastitic and kept saying "in the next life i would like to come back as a butterfly" then at the very last scene when Max was putting their stuff in a grave with a bunch of wooden crosses...a butterfly landed on one of the crosses. I think I wept.

I thought the implication of the final episode was that Max, Norman, and Virgil were going to face Skullmaster at the end with the intention of killing him once and for all. It would be easy for them, since they knew what to expect that time.

I felt the exact same way. Spent every morning for so sooo long watching every episode, loved every one... but then the last episode happened, ending with the line "great! we can do it all again!" I was so mad! All that time just to start back at the begining. Suxorz! Still loved the show though!

reply

OMG... you people are bringing back so many memories... i remember the monkey, he was so cool, and yes.. that most definately was the saddest episode

reply

i bought the dvd's, dubbed ones. and the last episodes were where time went back to the beginning. i know what you guys are saying but when i watch it all up until then, it really does make it an amazing ending. Its a fight between good and evil for all time, but who knows maybe max can win the 2nd time around now that he knows whats coming. ending gave me chills watching it. amazing show!

reply

C'mon! The real genius of the final episode is that it gives full reign to replay all the episodes in syndication! What better way to end a series than not to let it end because all the episodes become 'new' again?

reply

The ending of the show was ok.
However I came up with one myself which would
A bring up some new questions.
B. Could bring new people into it.
It's still being worked on not that anyone will ever see it anyways.

reply

So, everyone loves to blast this ending, despite it being the exact same method used for "Red Dwarf"?

reply

i can see what most of you guys mean, it was a fantastic cartoon series, id get up every saturday morning just to watch them.....but man, the ending was dissapointing, not only did you not see norman defeat skullmaster, but you knew there wouldnt be new series too cus its 're-living' the past! very sad :(

'Why can't you just be nice?' 'Because the world isn't nice'

reply

Yeah very sad but it also opens up the question... if Max Virgil and Norman knew they got to do it over again ? wouldnt skullmaster know about it as well?

true, makes you think who does really win in the end?

'Why can't you just be nice?' 'Because the world isn't nice'

i loved this show when i was a kid norman dying in the last episode was the most distressing event of my childhood i have all the episodes now and still cant watch it at twenty two goes to show how powerful that last episode was! Still being older and still emotionally scared i wish they had done a better ending or better yet NOT ENDED IT AT ALL!! If this show ever came back on the air or a film i'd probably assume i'd died and gone to heaven!

reply

As a kid I didn't really get the ending. It start's over? wtf?
As an adult I kind of went, yea it starts over. Max never "wins" so to speak, but Max was trying to stop skullmaster. Skullmaster never wins, so max has won. If there's always a time loop, well, that's kind of impossible, but still, it means the that a sacrifice is made and evil doesn't take over.

it was a weak ending like I said if Vrigil and Max knew it was a time loop and they got to do everything again then Skullmaster may know as well.

And if it always ends in a time loop then that would be perceived as some kind of purgatory or torture for max who doesnt get to grow up.Any body being born within the time loop wouldnt get to grow up people might die all over again like a wierd groundhog year for the world.

I wonder if this was a way to write a finale, but also open the door to new episodes if they got another order. This way, they write new episodes with new villains, but also keep Skullmaster as a main villain since he wasn't defeated really.

Maybe we can go and look for some quality fanfiction?

I worked very hard on a treatment for a third time max has to defeat skullmaster, we don't see the 2nd time in my treatment. It is like groundhog day, everytime something changes so...it is not easy for him to defeat skullmaster over and over. By this point in time he doesn't want to be the chosen one but, he does so only because he wants to save his girlfriend Bea. Ultimately he has to sacrifice himself one day. Like the other chosen ones before him. His destiny is to die, like all of us have to one day.

I can understand how disappointing the ending is. It reminds me of the Roseanne finale where she said "None of what you watched actually happened." It feels like you waste your time being loyal and watching an entire TV series only to be lied to.

However, I think that the ending where he is calling his mom's answering machine hints that he is hunting down Skullmaster and immediately defeating Skullmaster instead of it constantly repeating itself. just like an "Iron Giant" marathon where he crashes at both the beginning and the end of the film.

In addition to Skullmaster being defeated immediately, I also assume that the heroes that died no longer have that fate. This includes the human that was transformed into a bird, and the four legendary warriors. etc.

But even with Skullmaster out of the way, they would still be fighting the same villains and going to the same places.

Yeah they would they would know how to handle the villains better because they would already know their plan. Unless when every one got a reset they all remembered what happened as well......

Then that would mean the new time line would be much more difficult. They could still defeat Skullmaster but they would have to spend every free moment either attacking him or plotting an attack, similar to Kagome. Max might have to end up missing school, and then when he graduates he is probably going to a far away land to become immortal or extremely long living just like Virgil and Norman.
