Wow, things are slow here, aren't they? Nobody else has posted yet, and it's Saturday already. And I thought I was the only one NOT too excited about this. Anyway...

This episode was better. But it's basically about searching forvand not finding answers, and at a rather slow pace, especially for what's supposed to be an action series, and with only six chapters to get things solved, instead of a slow-buring drama.

I'd say the best part is rooting for the trigger-happy military to shoot someone they shouldn't and causing problems in the process. That part is becoming hilarious, in fact, and now I WANT them to shoot one another and let the aliens win. So, the soldiers shoot a yellow portal, and end hurting other soldiers. Then they detect an unidentified aircraft and as a result, the doctor gets shot. Finally, they shoot the running soldier, when they had all the means to catch the poor guy. (Not to mention the guy in a suit who just like that shoots his family and drives away.) Invasion: Earth makes a very strong case in favor of gun control.

Another thing that called my attention was the yellow glow of the portal. Some of these special effects seemed coming right out of the 1960s, specifically the TV show The Invaders, with Roy Thinnes. Do you remember? We should watch that one, but only after we watch UFO.

So, the general got tired of "shooting down" everything Drake said, especially considering Drake was right all the time, and now they are buddy-buddies, real BFFs. That was inevitable.

The scenes in the spaceship were quite creepy. I just wonder why the female (Amanda) was belly up, and the male abductees were butts up. I think I saw the aliens penetrate every conceivable orifice in the soldiers' bodies, except the most obvious one. Come on, have the aliens missed the class "Alien Abduction 101"? Something to ponder for the night. That's why things were so traumatic for the poor soldiers. And on top of that on e of them gets shot by the guards.

Amanda came back creepier than usual, and now she's being cold with her scared daughter. Well, who said she was a model mother anyway? Maybe that's the way she always is.

So the pilot is the WWII soldier, not a shapeshifter. Pretty much what was expected.

Let's say I'm getting into the story, and this might not be a total waste after all. Four more to go.

This one gets 6 alien probes in that planet between Saturn and Neptune, or perhaps in a planet where the sun doesn't shine.

Actually, I'm pretty anxious to get to it, but my son, his wife and our four grandchildren arrived from California on Friday evening. This is going to be very difficult for me to squeeze in a show no one else is interested in watching (for some odd reason). I expect to be behind for a couple of weeks, but I will catch up!

The saga continues. First off, the others were right about the shot down pilot being the British officer from 1944 and not an alien posing as him -unless we have some sneaky twist later on. The concept of him being taken into space by aliens and travelling with them returning having aged only a year or so while the Earth ages 54 years is scientifically sound actually, based on time being a fourth dimension for measurement purposes. But this episode talks about the fourth dimension as being another physical dimension somehow at right angles to ours, with aliens using it to transport themselves and humans through creation of a portal. Amanda and some soldiers are kidnapped via such a portal early on.

Meanwhile, the shot-down pilot is not being cooperative, not even name rank and serial number, and just saying he can’t talk about it. He is worked over by the military to get information, but it seems to be a picnic compared to the soldiers in the alien’s hands who are being probed and subjected to painful injections into their veins. Ouch! Later on, they are returned safe and sound – or are they?

Eventually, Drake gets through to the shot-down pilot enough to get name, rank and serial number. From that, he is identified as RAF Lt. Charles Tryell who went missing back in 1944. Once again Lt. Drake, the outsider, is right in the thick of things. First, when the military thinks they are about to be attacked by aliens, they order Tyrell killed rather than let him fall into alien hands. Drake hesitates long enough for word to come through that the radar was picking up friendly soldiers, not alien. Lucky break. (Quick. Aliens are coming. Shoot the prisoner. Blam! Whoops, it was just friendlies; my bad. Gee, that’s going to put a sticky wicket in our questioning of the prisoner now.) Even Major Reece, who is ticked off that Drake didn’t follow orders, admits that it’s a good thing he didn’t. Later, when Amanda is returned, Drake wants to guard her. “I know her best,” he declares. Right, he’s known her for what – half a day?

We officially now have two alien parties – the echoes and the NDs. Echo because "extraterrestrials" starts with E, and Echo is military code for E. (They were dubbed EUO’s – Extraterrestrials of Unknown Origin.) Meanwhile, Amanda literally tears the letters ND into her skin, so she’ll remember that about the aliens when she is returned. But what does it mean? Probably not that they’re from North Dakota.

The soldier that were returned and Tyrell turn out to be “sleepers.”- responding, no doubt, to some alien brainwashing. It was disappointing to see him shoot and probably kill another soldier, after he seemed to be one of the good guys. (I understand he's not really responsible for his actions, but still...) Meanwhile, is Amanda a time bomb set to go off later? We’ll find out. The show seemed a little more confused and unfocused from last week’s episode so I’ll give it 6 nasty alien torture centers. Maybe I’m being a little stingy, but I might be more generous later on to make up for it.

the 4th dimension.
Wow these brits are hard core. Prisoner in the hospital and just yank his tooth on the spot, no anesthetic or anything, just yank. They also do lots of shooting and the like. The trip into the portal was yucky, lots of violence not much of a story that I can see yet. Plots seem a little thin to me with lots of yelling and shooting to try and cover up some. I am still interested but starting to lose a little steam. Usually Fred Ward is serviceable in most things but he's a little to over the top in this for right now. The Lady interrogator is bit of a twist but for heavens sake, what does it take to make her believe these people are telling the truth. Lots of people saw them sucked into the portal, just kind of silly, also silly, not being able to identify your own people when they are coming up on your truck with an alien in it.
The return of the people from the portal was seemingly pretty predictable, you know something has been done to them and this is flushed out as we moved forward, more shooting and then the end with Amanda doing what ever it is she's going to be doing and other guy driving down the country side doing what ever it is he's going to be doing. Still checked in but this episode didn't do much for me.
All in all watchable but nothing earth shaking, I'll give this one 5 dental implants on the IE scale. Next one should be better.

Good call! I was going to mention that, as I'm sensitive to dental issues after having lost two teeth after root canals. I just thought that if it were one of their people, they would've surgically removed the implant and preserved the tooth. Or would have shot him, as they like to do... Also, good call about the lady interrogator. I guess someone has to play the skeptic, but she's making a special effort to being blind to the truth.

This is the kind of thing I find really annoying. It's blatantly stupid. Don't show me a zillion witnesses and then tell all the people that saw it happen you don't believe them. That's terrible.
This show seems to go out of it's way to do super silly things like the tooth, there was just no reason to provoke them to pull the tooth that way, completely unnecessary. Same with gunning down the soldier at the end, many other ways to do this. At least they yelled a warning in a language he understood.

Yeah, the tooth extraction without anesthetic made me cringe, too. I remember when I got all my teeth out in blocks of so many at a time. The dentist accidentally started one past where he had deadened, and even though I understood he had to finish the one he had started, I couldn't help but tae kwon do block his hand away from my mouth until it was there to administer another shot of Lidocaine. (In case anyone asks, that was months before I dropped out as a blue belt and many years have gone by since.)

This Friday on “Invasion: Earth” ep. 2 “The Fourth Dimension”

Wow what an episode there is no way I would want to be abducted by these aliens talk about torture they have it down to a science. And when they press you for information you fall to the floor and start foaming at the mouth. Did Amanda scratch ND into her arm? She was trying to make sure she didn’t forget something. Boy do they need to keep an eye on her at all times. The tooth extraction part I couldn’t even watch don’t they have Novocain. I couldn’t image someone be able to hold my big mouth open to do what they did to our time traveler. Only four more to go…

Any reason for the Major General not to report the Alien encounter to his superior(s)? Is he afraid of being called a nut?

This was an educational episode. If anyone ever asks for the definition of "gratuitous violence", just refer them to Invasion: Earth, episode 2. They were pretty trigger-happy in ep.1, but this is really getting crazy--why shoot the prisoner just to keep him from being taken by whomever might be in the unidentified aircraft? There doesn't seem to be any logic to that at all.

The "NDs" do all sorts of horrific things to their captives, but I guess that's what aliens do. Ripping out body parts, beatings, summary killings...oh, wait...that's what the British do! I kept thinking that TV shows and films made in the U.S. almost always show the American military personnel as reluctant to use anything but minimal force in these kinds of situations, except for one rogue officer who always gets his comeuppance in the end. I'm surprised the British show their military doing just the opposite. Not good for P.R. And related to that:

madp: Invasion: Earth makes a very strong case in favor of gun control.
I don't know about that. Gun control supporters generally want to restrict firearms to the police and military. This show makes a very good case for disarming the military. I guess you could limit it to the police. At least they haven't adopted the "shoot first and ask questions in a foreign language later" policy. Yet.

wlcebtg: Any reason for the Major General not to report the Alien encounter to his superior(s)? Is he afraid of being called a nut?
Well, before reporting something like that, you'd want to be pretty darn sure you can prove it. And after all, all he has is a human prisoner who claims he was abducted, several witnesses who saw a strange shimmering light they can't identify, some more folks who disappeared for a while and can't tell anything that happened to them, an undecipherable radio signal of unknown origin, a sighting of some unusual type of aircraft, and, oh by the way, the wreckage of a downed alien spacecraft. But I guess he's waiting for real proof.

So Amanda gouges "ND" into her arm so she could get her message across even if she's dead. OK, but what does "ND" mean? Sir, we've found Dr. Tuckers's corpse, but, fortunately, it had "ND" carved in her forearm, so now we have everything we need to know about this threat. I guess it's like "42": it's the answer you need, but now you just have to know the question.

This one seemed to be more about torturing POWs than about advancing the plot, so I'll give it 6 indictments for war crimes.

OK. Second episode in and it's just beginning to form into a storyline. Odd that they put the parallel storyline of the WWII Lt. in with the two alien races at war angle. Especially since we appear to have attacked the wrong side and they're still on our side.

Man, I wouldn't want go go up against these NDs even with Will Smith and Sigourney Weaver both on my side. Monsters is right.

Getting my attention now. 7 other dimensions.
