I love this movie, and I have it on VHS, but I, too, would like to know why it's not on DVD. Pretty much every other TNT Original is on TV. Maybe this isn't on DVD because of low demand?

I asked Ritz camera if they could transfer from VHS to DVD, bit said they couldn't. If a DVD Recorder won't do it, you could always put a DVD camcorder in front of the TV screen, but it won't be as clear.

Zack: Guess what I got back there?
Enrico: You just told me. Ass! We're haulin' ass!

I would buy a copy of this too.
Very respectful, very mournful, and informative.

Officially released on DVD-R by Warner Archives today (3/29/2011). You can buy at wbshop.com, and eventually at other online stores.

That's great news, thanks!!!

The Warner Brothers site and the DVD's listing on Amazon both say that it is in widescreen. If anybody out there has purchased the DVD, do you know if they just stretched out the 4:3 image, or did they actually go back to the film source and make it a true widescreen image?
I've got a VHS copy that I transferred to DVD myself, and it turned out pretty well, so if the official DVD just stretched out the picture, I won't buy the DVD. However, if it is a true widescreen release, I'd like to pick it up.

Go to the Facebook account for "Warner Archive Collection" and ask them there. They're very responsive to questions, in a fairly timely manner. Surprised me how quickly they answered questions about possible new releases.

Thanks for the tip. I'm not on Facebook, so I contacted them through their webpage. Mary from WB wrote back in a matter of hours and said that "If the description says that the aspect ratio is 16x9 full frame, this just means that it is full screen." I take that to mean that the 4:3 image was stretched to fill a 16x9 screen.

I disagree with your assumption that the image was stretched. That would be a distorted image. Here's what I think happened, and how it was accomplished. The technical specs listed here at imdb list the original aspect ratio as 1.33:1, which is the same as 4:3. Warner has released many older films on DVD, originally released in 4:3, in 16x9, by cutting off some of the top and bottom, taking a 16x9 image out of the center of each frame that's pretty effective. I was dubious at first, but after seeing the results demonstrated in many of the films (that were originally in the 4:3 ratio) included in the TCM Greatest Classic Films Collection series I'm satisfied with the results.

It's the same process used by many of the new HDTVs where you can re-format a 4:3 image into a 16x9 one. On my Sylvania sets (all 5 of them) it's called "Zoom", on my Samsung something else, can't recall right now.

Anyhow, hope this helps you, and from my past purchases of Warner Archive releases I think you'll be happy with the results. That's the opinion of one Pisces to another.
