Better than the Travolta 2009 version

I accidentally watched this version on Encore because it was labelled the Travolta version. I was more impressed with this version than the Travolta version. All the main character actors are known in this version.

Agreed. The Intensity is more clear. I actually liked it better than the original, which is a rareity for me... I had a dumb down moment, and did not realise that the 2009 version was a remake of a remake (or lazy Hollywood). But, I do not usually condone or watch remakes... but I got caught twice with this one... Having seen them in reverse order... DAMNITALLTOHECK. I must be more observant. :)

Look, this TV version isn't a good movie, but it has an interesting cast and I'm fond of these what I call "saturday night laying in front of the TV B movie". I like to watch them. The 2009 version is a stale Hollywood vehicle for Washington and Travolta, and especially Travolta is pretty cringeworthy. He never makes a good villain. Well, once, in Face-Off. But he always plays his villain characters way too over the top.

From what I read, the movie remake is like the movie remake of the '70s gem "Assault on Precinct 13" -- they can't just make a good genre flick, they have to make some sort of big flashy thing, maybe with some sort of conspiracy angle or something.

Yes, for a remake, this is a MUCH better version by ABC than the 2009 version. Much more realistic for a New York native, and better acting. (The Token <double-pun intended> wasn't needed.) For those that have read the book, this version has better character development; but that is the distinct advantage of (at that time) a television film or mini-series; there is time enough to flesh out the individuals; which cannot be done in a standard theatrical release. Now the norm is an 11-13 episode "series" on television, which is a godsend for writers.
