Shankill Butchers

Basically this movie was based on them.

But how about a remake or a different movie all together totally based on the SBs?

I think it would be much more violent and a better movie.

More gore please!

The film is based on the book Resurrection Man by Eoin McNamee. He claims that it is loosely inspired by the Butchers, although if you read Martin Dillon's book on the Butchers you can see where McNamee took events and changed a few names to make them his own.

Well if that's the case then no film could be made about the troubles as sadistic killings are featured, e.g Michael Collins, Bloody Sunday.

The fact is these type of films should continue to be made to educate future generations about the history of the troubles.

However I do agree that if a film is made based on historical events in the case of Resurrection Man which was based on The Shankill Butchers it should depict the real people, Lenny Murphy, The Butchers' ringleader instead of the fictionalised Victor Kelly.

Finally, if they do get round to making the true story of The Shankill Butchers, then James Nesbit should play Lenny Murphy, he's the spitting image.

Problem with that is, after the controversy surrounding this film and the fact that several people involved with the case are still alive, the chances of that happening are slim.

This is still an emotive case for many people, as was demonstrated when several of the gang were released under the terms of the Good Friday Agreement. The relatives would not want a film that seemingly glamourises Murphy's killings.

You're missing the point of what "drunkmessiah" was trying to say. Of course films can be made of true events like this but the contributor who calls himself EddiePatrick writes of these horrific killings as if it all great fun - "more gore" etc! Well all I can say to Mr "eddiepatrick" is - would he feel the same if had been walking down one of those dark streets and got picked up by the Shankhill Butchers........?!!! No - its fun for this kind of guy as long as the atrocity is happening to somebody else!
